-Our managing director Sharon Lane recently attended Smart Manufacturing Week, gaining valuable insights into the latest developments and innovations across the manufacturing sector.

-We were also pleased to welcome customers to our North Skelton site, where we discussed several promising future projects and opportunities for collaboration.

-Adding to the good news, we have successfully passed the audit of our Health & Safety Management System and have achieved ISO 45001 certification through LRQA. This certification reflects our ongoing commitment to maintaining the highest standards of health, safety and wellbeing across our operations.

A great achievement for everyone involved and another positive step forward for the business.

Last week, we were delighted to welcome Leon, one of our Engineering Scholars, back to North Skelton to complete a further week of his work experience.

Leon is currently studying Mechanical Engineering at Middlesbrough College and is sponsored by TCL through the Middlesbrough College Engineering Scholarship Scheme.

Here he is receiving his placement completion certificate from our Head of Engineering, Alaine.

It has been a pleasure to support Leon in developing his practical engineering experience, and we look forward to following his continued progress.

📆 May Round-Up

May hasn’t slowed us down at all — it’s been a month packed with activity across projects, customers and events.

Our Tees White Gill Thrusters engineers have had a particularly busy month, delivering service attendances across the globe, from Chile to Alaska and into Europe.

It’s also been a strong month for industry engagement:
🔹Martyn attended the Make UK Defence “Scaling Up in the Defence Sector” event at NTG
🔹Josh attended the Birchwood Nuclear Hub Exhibition in Warrington
🔹Sharon was at the NOF Nuclear Conference at Wynyard Hall, representing the business at a key regional industry event

Josh and Martyn have also been out visiting customers, alongside welcoming visitors into North Skelton for meetings and project discussions.

We were also pleased to host Martha and Leon, both for week-long work experience placements.

Plenty achieved in May, with a steady pace of activity carrying through into June.

During a planned shutdown period, our customer required urgent machining of a 5-metre diameter component, with delivery aligned tightly to their programme schedule.

To support this, we extended machining hours and re-prioritised capacity to ensure the work could be delivered within the required timeframe. Given the scale of the component, it was clear that a large-capacity vertical turning capability was the right solution for the job.

With the ability to accommodate components up to 6.8m in diameter, 4.4m in height, and up to 90 tonnes in weight, our large vertical turning capacity is designed for oversized, high-precision machining where both speed and accuracy are critical.

When programmes are tight and components exceed standard machine capacity, we provide the space, capability and commitment to keep production moving.

The session sparked plenty of curiosity and great questions, giving pupils a simple insight into how metals behave and where they are used in everyday life.

This is a laywheel fabrication for the marine industry.

At 6m in diameter, we knew there was only one machine up to the task our largest vertical borer, the Richards 22'.

Boasting a 6.8m Ø swing, max height of 4.4mm and a 90 tonne table capacity, this is one of the largest vertical turning centres in the UK.

A quick look inside our inspection room, where the detail really counts!

We use digital measurement equipment alongside established inspection methods, including measure-to-CAD capability and full reporting, to give complete confidence in dimensional accuracy. It’s particularly important for the large, complex components we regularly produce.

Inspection isn’t something we bolt on at the end. It’s built into the whole process, from start to finish, under our ISO 9001 quality system.

In short, if it leaves here, it’s been properly checked, properly verified, and properly documented.
