Foxtrot Charlie Overhaul Update!

Progress continues on the overhaul of Foxtrot Charlie, with more of the helicopter's internal parts now exposed. From hydraulic servos and the main gearbox to the clutch actuator and drive belts, the aircraft is steadily being stripped down.

There's still plenty of work ahead before reassembly can begin, but it's fascinating to see what's hidden beneath those panels!

Foxtrot Charlie’s 2,200-Hour Overhaul has well and truly begun!

One of our R44's is now in the expert hands of the team at Heliserve Ltd in Leeds for a full overhaul! This massive project should take about six months, and it's already started.

The doors, engine cowlings, and tail assembly have been stripped away, giving us a rare, unobstructed look at the engineering marvel beneath the shell. From the powerful Lycoming IO-540 engine to the intricate drive belts and tail cone interior, it’s incredible to see the machine completely exposed!

We’re documenting the entire six-month journey on a blog, you'll be able to see the behind-the-scenes photos of components you’d normally never get to see like this. Read our blog to find out what happens during an R44 overhaul:

Thanks to Jim Lawson at Lawson Electrical for the help installing the first prototype of Cenegex Aviation Pilot Activated Lighting System (PALS).

This remote, pilot activated landing light controller is intended to be energy efficient by enabling approaching aircraft into private sites turn on landing lights and other aids rather than relying on typical “dust til dawn” sensors.

Particularly suited for areas where light pollution or close proximity to neighbouring properties mean even constant on/dusk till dawn landing lights could be seen as intrusive.
