Scunthorpe Women have enjoyed a successful start to the new year being unbeaten so far 🤩🤩
This week saw them up against second place Sheffield Tigers also enjoying a good run of form. From the kick off, Scunthorpe were panicking and Sheffield pressured which led to a fumble and Sheffield capitalising for their first score in under 1 minute. A few words were said to regroup and we went back at it. The game didn’t all go our way and for huge parts we were constantly on the defensive. We have been working hard in training and this showed when we pressured their attack they made errors. Momentum swung back and forth throughout the whole game and we scored every visit to their 22 in the first half which was becoming a fast pace end to end affair. Scunthorpe’s line outs worked well this week and was as huge platform for a couple of Scunthorpe’s tries. Likewise the scrums were so powerful they had Sheffield clinging on for dear life. There were individual passages of brilliance from players that got us on the front foot and past the gain line but it truly was a team performance and everyone who came on with the green shirt played a part 🖤💚 The final score was 45-36, it was a battle but the win was fully deserved by the Scunthorpe Women 🙌 As always thanks to our loyal followers, your encouragement and support is greatly received!

Scunthorpe were on the road again this week for their first visit to newly promoted Skipton Roses. With an early pitch inspection resulting in a frozen pitch the game was swiftly moved across the moors to Colne and Nelson. The pitch conditions were still not favourable and we knew the game would be influenced by this. A slow start by Scunthorpe allowed Skipton to capitalise with a couple of quick unanswered tries, Skipton using their forward runners to make ground round the ruck fringes to score. Scunthorpe needed to wake up and go back to basics, which we did . A great scrum led to the backs being released and Cassie using her boot to do a cross field kick for Ella to kick through from the landing, gather and score for one of her three tries. Cassie converted. 14-07 Scunthorpe now lifted the tempo and some excellent handling through Jorja and Georgina led to Ella being put in for her second. 14–12. With momentum heavily swinging in our favour allowed us to really use our systems to fruition. The forwards carried with gusto and always made ground and territory leading to Cassie crossing for her try. 14-17. Ella polished her hat trick off with a gathered kick and weave through the defence to score a brilliant try 🙌 The game finished 14-22 to Scunthorpe 💚🖤💚🖤💚🖤Thank you to all our travelling support, we couldn’t do it without you!
