It was great to welcome members of the Sedgefield Business Network to NETPark this morning for their latest business breakfast.

Events like these are a fantastic opportunity for local businesses to come together, share experiences, make new connections and hear about what's happening across the area.

Guests enjoyed a tour of Durham university's Orbit centre and the Centre for Advanced Instrumentation with Joanne Rout, offering a glimpse into some of the innovative work taking place here at NETPark.

A big thank you to Councillor Chris Lines and everyone involved in organising the event, and to all those who attended. Building strong connections between businesses, organisations and our local community helps make Sedgefield such a great place to live, work and innovate.

North East universities and North East Mayor launch £22.5m fund to convert research into new businesses

The North East Spinout Inspire Fund, launched today (Thursday 11 June), is supported by £10m investment from the North East Mayoral Strategic Authority (MSA) and a total of £12.5m from Durham, Newcastle, Northumbria, Sunderland, and Teesside universities. It will focus on transforming cutting-edge research into high-growth new businesses based in North East England.

International interest in NETPark continues to grow 🌍

Last week, we were pleased to welcome a delegation of Deputy Ambassadors and political representatives from across Europe to NETPark, showcasing the world-class innovation, advanced manufacturing and technology capabilities being developed right here in County Durham.

Hosted by Alan Strickland MP and Dr Arnab Basu of Kromek, the valuable discussions were joined by Chris McDonald MP and businesses from NETPark's thriving defence and security community. The visit provided an opportunity to discuss innovation, future collaboration opportunities and research partnerships.

The delegation also visited Filtronic, where CEO Nat Edington led a tour of the company's state-of-the-art manufacturing facility. Having recently expanded from its original premises into newly developed space within NETPark, Filtronic's growth is a strong example of how businesses can scale and thrive within the park's innovation ecosystem.

The visit highlighted the depth of expertise and capability already established across NETPark's defence and security sector, while demonstrating the park's growing international profile. As global interest continues to increase, opportunities for collaboration, investment and economic growth across County Durham and the wider North East are growing with it.
