Our Chairman, Simon Turner, spent last week visiting our Group companies in Kenya. First stop Kakuzi Plc for a taste of their blueberries, avocado and macadamia nuts.

Simon enjoyed guided tours of the operations from Richard Collins - Regional New Crops Development Manager, Henry Owino - Group Manager Macadamia and Zachary Giku - Group Manager Horticulture West Pack House.

Simon commented "This was my first visit to Kakuzi, and I was hugely impressed by the dedication to quality shown by those I met, their technical expertise and their deep commitment to responsible agricultural practises and the welfare of their communities. This is an organisation which embodies strong values and I, on behalf of the Camellia board, would like to express my admiration and gratitude for its work."

C.C.Lawrie in Brazil are harnessing the power of sustainable pest control with the use of advanced techniques such as biologicals to manage pests in their maize crops. This involves releasing Trichogramma by drone to control the maize cob caterpillar (Helicoverpa zea). These beneficial insects lay eggs inside moth eggs, stopping caterpillars before they even hatch—reducing crop damage and breaking the pest’s life cycle.

Technology combined with conscious management and responsible farming driving a healthier harvest!

The team at Duncan Brothers' Chatlapore Factory were proud to show Joe their Green Factory Award during his recent visit to Banglaesh. The award, won earlier this year, was presented by the Ministry for Labour and Employment, Bangladesh.

Factories within 15 sectors such as tea, textile, and electronics applied for the award, Chatlapore stood out as one of the few Tea factories to receive the award. The criteria for selection included safety, cleanliness, environment, friendliness and productivity. It was a moment of great pride for the team, congratulations!

As November arrives, the tea gardens at Duncan Brothers in Bangladesh are wrapping up the plucking season and gearing up for winter work, with pruning as a key focus. Joe's recent visit took him to Karimpore Tea Garden, where he met with Garden Manager Abul Kalam and his team to discuss optimal pruning heights across sections. Pruning methods vary based on the age of the tea fields and include options such as light prune, medium prune, and height reduction. Along with pruning, winter tasks also include infilling gaps in the tea fields and renovating drains to prepare for the new season.

Profit is our lifeblood, but not our soul.

Camellia Plc is an international Group – a global family of diverse companies with a 131-year heritage employing approximately 78,000 people worldwide. From the start, Camellia’s ethos has been based on the highest moral and professional integrity, and a commitment to doing the right thing – ethically and commercially, globally and locally. PHILOSOPHY

"Our entire emphasis is towards the development of a world-wide group of businesses which by their very nature require their management teams to take a long term view. Many companies in the group are more than 100 years old and have acquired particular skills and traditions. We do not see these assets as objects or commodities or bits of paper that can be traded, but rather, as living entities from which, if properly managed, we might earn an attractive long term return on our investment. We also consider it our prime responsibility to ensure the continuity, development and progressive growth of these individual enterprises."

Gordon Fox

LONG-TERMISM We see ourselves as custodians, holding our business in trust for future generations. We believe that we have a responsibility to ensure the stability, security and continuity of all our businesses, so that they can be passed on to the next generation as enduring operations. We recognise that people and businesses take time to establish and grow to their full potential and we are happy to wait for that to happen. We are deeply committed to improving the long-term stability and wellbeing of our businesses, the communities and the environments in which we are involved.
