Cannabis is often used to manage and alleviate the symptoms of many medical conditions, including pain, nausea, inflammation, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, PTSD, anxiety, and depression. 🪴💚

In addition, some studies have shown that cannabis has the potential to be used to treat serious and life-threatening conditions like cancer.

Because of the potentially vast array of benefits for different medical conditions, understanding the medicinal benefits of cannabis is important for medical practitioners, health care providers and those interested in natural remedies.

For medical professionals, it is essential to understand the various therapeutic benefits of various cannabis strain, in order to better assess which one is best suited to an individual and their particular condition.

Cannabis can have various medicinal benefits, from chronic pain management to helping with stress and sleep disorders. It can even be used to help control or manage epilepsy, epilepsy-related seizures, and even cancer. 💚

These potential benefits of cannabis have caused some to speculate on how cannabinoids (the active compounds in cannabis) might one day change the future of healthcare in the UK.

Cannabinoids are chemical compounds found in the cannabis plant, they interact with our bodies’ own endocannabinoid system and have the potential to influence conditions such as anxiety, chronic pain, and even cancer. In the UK, the usage of cannabis; either in recreational or medical capacity is not currently legal, however, more and more research is suggesting it could be a valuable treatment for a host of conditions. The medicinal benefits of cannabinoids have the potential to revolutionise healthcare in the UK and could have a positive impact on people's lives.

The most obvious benefit to many UK citizens would be access to medical ma*****na. Currently, medical ma*****na is only available in the UK through a Home Office medical license, and it is expensive. But cannabinoids have the potential to reduce costs and make medical ma*****na more accessible to those who need it. With more widespread access, more people could gain access to the beneficial effects of cannabis, potentially encouraging better patient outcomes and improving the quality of life for many individuals.

Another potential benefit to the UK healthcare system is the possibility of using cannabinoids to treat chronic and terminal illnesses. Many countries, such as the US and Canada, are already embracing cannabinoids treatments, with new products entering the market regularly. This suggests that cannabinoids could be used to treat conditions such as cancer and chronic pain, as well as other conditions such as Alzheimer’s and arthritis. Cannabinoids could be a low-risk, natural treatment for these illnesses and could open up more options for patients when it comes to treating and managing these illnesses.

Furthermore, research has suggested that cannabinoids may be beneficial in helping to manage anxiety and depression. These conditions can have a huge impact on individuals and can be very difficult to treat. Cannabinoids could provide a natural way to overcome this, with potential positive effects on mental health and overall wellbeing. This could reduce the effect of these illnesses on individuals and allow them to experience a better quality of life.

The use of cannabinoids could also be beneficial in helping to reduce the burden of the National Health Service (NHS). The NHS currently spends a huge amount of money on drugs, medications, and treatments, which often come with side effects and are not always effective. Cannabinoids could provide an alternative treatment for a range of conditions, meaning fewer drugs being prescribed and fewer costs for the NHS.

Finally, it is thought that cannabinoids could be used to help reduce drug addiction. Studies have suggested that cannabinoids could be an effective treatment for opioid addiction, particularly when compared to conventional treatments. With the growing problem of drug addiction, this could provide a valuable opportunity for the UK to tackle the issue and help those affected to stop their drug use and build a healthier life.

Overall, it is clear that cannabinoids could have a huge impact on the future of healthcare in the UK. While the legalisation of cannabis is still widely debated, it is undeniable that this could be a positive change for many people in the UK, potentially leading to a better quality of life and reduced costs to the healthcare system. It remains to be seen if and when this will become a reality, but overall, it has the potential to revolutionise healthcare in the UK.

Cannabis has been used to treat pain for thousands of years.
In the UK, only products containing CBD (cannabidiol) are legal. CBD is one of over 100 cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant.

It does not have the psychoactive properties of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and does not make people feel ‘high’.

CBD is thought to work by reducing inflammation and pain. A small number of trials have been carried out on humans, and more research is needed.
However, the results of these trials are promising.

Cannabis and Fibromyalgia 🌱

Cannabis is a plant that contains many different chemical compounds, including cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). These compounds interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system, which is involved in regulating a wide range of functions, including pain, sleep, and mood.

CBD is the non-psychoactive compound in cannabis. This means that it does not produce the “high” associated with THC. CBD is thought to have anti-inflammatory and analgesic (pain-relieving) properties.

THC is the psychoactive compound in cannabis. It is thought to have pain-relieving and muscle-relaxing properties.

There is some evidence to suggest that cannabis may help to relieve symptoms of fibromyalgia. A 2017 study found that a cannabis-based medication containing CBD and THC was associated with a reduction in pain and an improvement in quality of life in people with fibromyalgia.

A small study from 2016 found that a cannabis-based medicine containing CBD and THC was effective in reducing pain and improving sleep in people with fibromyalgia.

A 2018 survey of people with fibromyalgia found that those who used cannabis had less pain, better sleep, and improved quality of life.

The Bottom Line

There is significant evidence to suggest that cannabinoids, compounds found in cannabis, may help to treat fibromyalgia.
More research is needed to confirm these findings, which is our goal here at our Isle of Wight research facility.
