Advanced Steam Traction Trust - ASTT The Advanced Steam Traction Group (AST Group) was established in 2012 after the 5AT project ceased. Membership of the group is open to all.

The Advanced Steam Technology Trust seeks to preserve the expertise and experience of the pioneers of Modern Steam, such as André Chapelon, Livio Dante Porta and David Wardale, with the aim of prolonging steam operation of main-line and heritage services for the benefit of present and future generations. By applying the principles of Advanced Steam to existing steam locomotive designs, and to the

development of new designs, the Trust aims to facilitate significant advances in reliability and performance, along with reductions in both operating & maintenance costs and fuel consumption & emissions. ASTT are in the process of transcribing and publishing the archives of LD Porta.. These historic calculations etc, still so very relevant to today's engineers, are available to purchase via the ASTT website.
