🟡Did you know?🟡

Volaticus has been a long running opportunity for students at Sheffield to use their creativity and knowledge of design - here are some fun facts about the project, and the UAV we plan to manufacture!

🟡Semester 2 has arrived, and the team is hard at work!🟡

Following our second general meeting this semester, Project Lead Hassan presented Volaticus’ progress in designing the UAV - catching everyone up on the plans for the following weeks and handing it over to each sub team to explain their efforts so far, in the run up to writing the project report.

Spirits are up and morale is high despite the circumstances - just a matter of time before we’ll see the fruits of our labour! 🛫

🟡Following some recent changes at Volaticus, please welcome Dan Perrin, our new Aerostructures Team Lead!🟡

Dan is a 1st year Aerospace student, now managing the sub-team’s work in finalising the designs for the fuselage and wings of our UAV, and manufacturing them into the finished product to ensure the structure of the aircraft won’t fail.

On top of his work with Volaticus, Dan enjoys windsurfing, hiking and running.

🟡Volaticus is back, and flying high in 2021!🟡

Looking over the design process so far, there were some great initial concept sketches that the team came up with from last year - in the beginning, almost everything was up in the air, from the shape of the nose to the style of landing gear, even the viability of a blended wing body design against the standard tube and wing.

With the freedom to experiment in the early stages, it was amazing to see the variety and ingenuity in designs. But having hashed and rehashed, taking on board perspective from each subteam, some key specifications were settled on, and we are now in the process of drafting out the design report for the final stretch (which will hopefully have us on the runway, ready to see our work in action!)

🟡We are proud to announce that Project Volaticus will now be a fully HEAR accredited opportunity for students at the University of Sheffield! 🟡

This will allow students to include records of their work for the project in their Higher Education Achievement Report, strengthening their portfolio and employability for future careers.

🟡Look out for future updates and insights on the project to come!🟡
