BMW 535d M57 turbocharger undergoing final testing on our CIMAT Turbo Test Expert.

Following high-speed balancing, the complete turbocharger is subjected to a dynamic flow test, with the rotor assembly driven at speed to replicate real operating conditions.

During the test we monitor pressure conditions across the turbine stage, verify correct rotor movement and internal running clearances, and inspect the complete assembly for oil leakage under dynamic conditions.

This final stage allows us to validate the turbocharger as a complete assembly — not simply a balanced CHRA — before it leaves our workshop.

Balancing is only part of the process. Dynamic testing gives us another level of control over the finished turbocharger.

In-house development goes beyond the turbocharger itself.

Airflow ports being machined for a custom CIMAT Turbo Test Expert balancing profile, developed in-house to achieve the required shaft speeds during high-speed core balancing.

When developing new hybrid turbocharger configurations, sometimes the test equipment needs upgrading alongside the turbo itself. Optimising airflow delivery allows us to achieve the required operating speeds consistently across different compressor and turbine combinations.

Using the 4th-axis capability of our SYIL X7, the airflow ports are machined directly into the shroud at the calculated entry angle, ensuring accurate and repeatable air delivery to the turbine wheel.

From CNC machining and component development through to high-speed balancing and final assembly — the complete development process stays under one roof.
