Microstructure of a CuAl7Si2 Aluminium Bronze consisting of a characteristic α-Cu matrix, annealing twins, and silicon-rich intermetallic phases.

These features contribute to the alloy’s excellent combination of strength, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance, making it ideal for demanding engineering applications.

A photomicrograph showing a case hardened steel submitted to determine the effective case depth.

The section shows a defined case with a slight surface decarburisation band.

Hardness testing was carried out in accordance with BS EN ISO 6507, with effective case depth determined to 550 HV per BS EN ISO 2639:2002, measuring approximately 0.55 mm.
