This weeks task is to take down and rebuild a section of balustrade in a beautiful walled garden designed by Joseph Paxton. The stone had been moved by root growth, so a section was taken down and rebuilt, the base stones weigh over a quarter of a ton, so care had to be taken.

A bit of a dry stone wall repair today, rebuilt a 4 metre section, really enjoyed a bit of gritstone walling, we’ve been building with a lot of limestone recently, so was good to get on the grit!

Half way through rebuilding this wall, the original build didn’t use big enough stone, we’ve incorporated another 4 tons...

Very interesting job for the next week.
Large retaining wall and balustrade that’s been pushed over by a huge cedar tree. Balustrade and and pillar dismantled, roots removed and then back fill with a concrete ground anchor, then rebuild back to original state.
Incredible location. The hall was originally owned by Charles Darwin’s uncle, and the grounds designed by Paxton.
