🔥 Over 1.1 million kWh of potential annual energy savings identified...

Our latest TIPCHECK survey at a major paper processing facility in Ellesmere Port identified significant opportunities to reduce heat loss, improve safety and lower operating costs across the site's boiler and steam systems.

Key findings included:
🔴 1,108,732 kWh potential annual energy savings
🔴 £72,544 potential annual cost savings
🔴 Steam valves and flanges operating at over 280°C with inadequate insulation
🔴 Four completely uninsulated boiler chutes, each responsible for around £11,000 in annual energy losses

Using the EiiF TIPCHECK Tool and calculations in accordance with BS EN 16247, BS EN 17956 and ISO EN 12241:2022, we identified where targeted insulation improvements could deliver the greatest impact on energy efficiency, operational performance and personnel safety.

These findings highlight the importance of regularly reviewing insulation performance across high-temperature systems, where even small areas of heat loss can have a significant impact.

⚡ Slough Multifuel EfW - Delivering Large-Scale Insulation & Trace Heating Solutions

Powertherm were proud to support the delivery of the Slough Multifuel Energy-from-Waste facility, working alongside Hitachi Zosen Inova (now Kanadevia Inova) to provide industrial insulation and electrical trace heating services.

The project helped deliver a state-of-the-art EfW plant capable of generating approximately 60MW of electricity while diverting around 480,000 tonnes of residual waste from landfill each year. The facility also supplies thermal energy to neighbouring businesses, improving overall energy efficiency.

Key delivery highlights include:

🔴 30,000m²+ of technical insulation and sheet metal cladding installed
🔴 8,906 linear metres of electrical trace heating systems installed
🔴 Boiler, Flue Gas Treatment, Water Steam Cycle, Solid Handling and Balance of Plant systems completed
🔴 2,900+ bespoke flexible insulation jackets designed, manufactured and installed in-house
🔴 Delivered with 0 RIDDOR reportable H&S incidents

By combining our in-house design, manufacturing and installation expertise, Powertherm delivered a complete insulation and trace heating solution that supported the plant's long-term efficiency, operational performance and reliability.

🛠️ Not every project starts with a new installation. Sometimes, it starts with fixing a system that was never fit for purpose.

When Powertherm carried out an inspection at a biomass power plant, we identified a thermal insulation system that posed both operational and safety risks. The existing insulation was inadequate, allowing excessive heat to transfer to the external cladding, causing scorching and creating unsafe surface temperatures.

Our team was appointed to design and install a fully engineered solution that restored the system to safe and efficient operating conditions.

Key elements of the project included:

🔴 Designing a new thermal insulation system to meet thermal performance and safe touch temperature requirements
🔴 Installing a 140mm multi-layer mineral wool insulation system with a DUK Rail substructure to prevent heat transfer
🔴 Manufacturing bespoke flexible insulation jackets for valves and pipework to allow easy maintenance access
🔴 Providing compliant scaffolding access to enable the works to be completed safely

The result? A system that now operates efficiently, meets industry safety standards, reduces heat loss, and protects both personnel and plant assets.
