Thinking about a heat pump? Here's something many homeowners don't always realise...

A heat pump isn't just a straight swap for a boiler. For it to work well, it really needs to be designed around your home so it can keep you comfortable and run efficiently.

Things like heat loss, radiator suitability, hot water demand, and how the system is controlled all play a part in getting it right.

That's where we can help.

We're Emerald Green Renewables - The Heat Pump People, a small family-run local business working with air source heat pumps.

If you're looking for a considered approach, we're your people. šŸ’š

A little summer holiday updateā˜€ļø

We just wanted to ask our lovely customers to bear with us a little at the moment! šŸ’š

Like many families, we're juggling work alongside the school holidays, and with the children at home our usual working hours are a little... all over the place! šŸ˜…

We're still here, still working away behind the scenes and doing our very best to keep on top of enquiries, quotes, emails and everything else that comes our way - it just might take us a little longer than usual to get back to you.

We really appreciate your patience & understanding while we navigate the summer holidays. šŸ’š

Thank you, as always, for supporting our little family-run business - it genuinely means so much to us.

This beautiful home has recently been upgraded from an oil boiler to a low-carbon heating solution, with the cascade arrangement ensuring there is sufficient capacity to comfortably meet the home’s demand.

To complement the new heating system, the homeowner is also installing solar PV, helping to generate renewable electricity on-site to power the heat pumps and further reduce running costs and carbon emissions.

A neat installation tucked away to the side of the property & another home embracing a more sustainable way to heat their home. šŸ’š

Boiler Upgrade Scheme Update

Homeowners with off-grid properties in England may now be eligible for an increased £9,000 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant towards an air-to-water heat pump.

Effective from 21 July 2026, the increased grant is available for eligible homes that:
• Are not connected to the mains gas network
• Are currently heated by oil or LPG
• Meet the scheme eligibility requirements

The enhanced funding is currently available until 31 March 2027, offering greater support for homeowners considering the transition from fossil fuel heating to a low-carbon alternative.

If you’re unsure whether your property qualifies, it’s worth reviewing the eligibility criteria before making any future heating decisions.

If you’re exploring your options, our Sherborne showroom provides the opportunity to see an air source heat pump and hot water cylinder up close, ask questions, and receive impartial guidance on whether a heat pump is the right solution for your home.

Appointments are available by arrangement.

Cooling Projects: a seasonal update

With the recent warm weather, we’ve received an exceptional number of enquiries about air-to-air heat pumps for cooling.

As a business specialising in heating and renewable energy, our focus during the warmer months is on preparing customers’ heating systems ahead of winter.

To ensure we continue to deliver the highest standard of service, we’ve made the decision to temporarily pause taking on any new cooling projects.

We expect to begin quoting for new air-to-air heat pump installations again from late September.

In the meantime, if you’re considering an air-to-air system, you’re very welcome to book a private appointment at our Sherborne showroom.

One of our engineers will take the time to discuss your property, explain the different options available and help you plan the most suitable solution ready for when we’re able to commence new projects.

Thank you for your patience and understanding - we look forward to helping with your project later this year.

Appointments are by arrangement only.

A Considered Approach

As the heat pump industry grows, there is increasing recognition that good outcomes rely heavily on good design.

We take a considered approach to every project; looking carefully at the whole system including heat loss calculations, emitter sizing, flow temperatures, hot water demand, property layout and how the home is actually used day-to-day.

We also encourage homeowners to think longer-term - not just about how the system works for them now, but how it may work for future homeowners too if the property is ever sold. Clear design, usability & long-term comfort all matter.

Heat pumps can work extremely well in UK homes, but performance, efficiency & comfort are all influenced by the quality of the design & planning long before installation day.

Should a heat pump run continuously?

A properly designed heat pump system will run for long, steady periods rather than switching on & off frequently.

Unlike a gas boiler that fires up quickly at high temperatures, a heat pump runs at lower flow temperatures and gently maintains your home’s warmth.

Think of it like cruise control vs stop-start driving - steady is far more efficient.

Instead of your home heating up, cooling down, then reheating again, a heat pump keeps the temperature stable.

A heat pump should feel like a background system; quietly and consistently keeping your home warm, rather than blasting heat on demand.

A quiet change worth being aware of…

From July, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme will be increasing its grant - but specifically for homes currently using oil or LPG.

It will only run at this higher level for one financial year, which makes it a meaningful (but time-limited) opportunity for those already considering a move to low-carbon heating.

With the uplift only running for a limited period, there’s likely to be increased demand as we move closer to summer.

In our experience, the best outcomes don’t come from reacting quickly to a grant change, but from taking the time to properly understand your home; how it holds heat, where it loses it, and what kind of system will genuinely work well day-to-day.

The grant can support the decision, but it shouldn’t drive it.

If switching from oil or LPG is something you’ve been quietly thinking about, this is a good moment to begin the conversation - without pressure, and without rushing.

For those who prefer to explore things properly, our showroom offers a calm space to talk through options and see how a system would be designed around your home.

Thoughtful design always outperforms quick decisions.
