Taking the time to fine-tune controls and system settings ensures our customers get the comfort, efficiency, and performance they expect from their renewable heating system.

It's the attention to detail that makes all the difference.

A Considered Approach

As the heat pump industry grows, there is increasing recognition that good outcomes rely heavily on good design.

We take a considered approach to every project; looking carefully at the whole system including heat loss calculations, emitter sizing, flow temperatures, hot water demand, property layout and how the home is actually used day-to-day.

We also encourage homeowners to think longer-term - not just about how the system works for them now, but how it may work for future homeowners too if the property is ever sold. Clear design, usability & long-term comfort all matter.

Heat pumps can work extremely well in UK homes, but performance, efficiency & comfort are all influenced by the quality of the design & planning long before installation day.

Should a heat pump run continuously?

A properly designed heat pump system will run for long, steady periods rather than switching on & off frequently.

Unlike a gas boiler that fires up quickly at high temperatures, a heat pump runs at lower flow temperatures and gently maintains your home’s warmth.

Think of it like cruise control vs stop-start driving - steady is far more efficient.

Instead of your home heating up, cooling down, then reheating again, a heat pump keeps the temperature stable.

A heat pump should feel like a background system; quietly and consistently keeping your home warm, rather than blasting heat on demand.

A quiet change worth being aware of…

From July, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme will be increasing its grant - but specifically for homes currently using oil or LPG.

It will only run at this higher level for one financial year, which makes it a meaningful (but time-limited) opportunity for those already considering a move to low-carbon heating.

With the uplift only running for a limited period, there’s likely to be increased demand as we move closer to summer.

In our experience, the best outcomes don’t come from reacting quickly to a grant change, but from taking the time to properly understand your home; how it holds heat, where it loses it, and what kind of system will genuinely work well day-to-day.

The grant can support the decision, but it shouldn’t drive it.

If switching from oil or LPG is something you’ve been quietly thinking about, this is a good moment to begin the conversation - without pressure, and without rushing.

For those who prefer to explore things properly, our showroom offers a calm space to talk through options and see how a system would be designed around your home.

Thoughtful design always outperforms quick decisions.

Feeling the Rising Cost of Oil Heating?

With oil prices continuing to fluctuate, many homeowners are reassessing how they heat their homes. The increasing expense and uncertainty have prompted a growing interest in more stable & sustainable alternatives, such as heat pumps.

Our showroom offers a calm & welcoming environment where you can explore these options at your own pace. It’s a space designed for open, informative conversations with our experienced engineers; allowing you to understand what a transition away from oil could look like for your home, without any pressure.

Due to a high level of demand, consultation appointments over the coming month are limited. If you’re thinking about moving away from oil, we recommend expressing your interest early so we can accommodate you when availability allows. 🙏

A considered space.

Quietly demonstrating the future of low-carbon living.

We have carefully reimagined a former industrial unit within the Old Yarn Mills, transforming it into a contemporary renewables showroom — a considered, working example of low-carbon heating in practice.

Opened in April 2024, the space reflects what is possible when existing commercial buildings are thoughtfully retrofitted for a more sustainable future. A new mezzanine level has been introduced to house Somervilles Ltd - Plumbing & Heating Services, our sister plumbing and heating company, creating a shared environment that brings design, installation and expertise together under one roof.

Once reliant on gas, the building now operates through an integrated system of solar PV and a Daikin heat pump and hot water solution, complemented by underfloor heating throughout. Together, these technologies work in quiet harmony — not as a concept, but as part of everyday life.

Sustainability is embedded within the fabric of the site itself. Our offices are heated via a Daikin heat pump, with a Daikin hot water cylinder providing hot water, while rooftop solar generation reduces reliance on the grid — at times allowing the building to operate entirely on its own renewable energy.

We created this space to offer a more tangible understanding of low-carbon living — a place where homeowners and the wider business community in Sherborne can experience what the future looks and feels like.
