Introducing a new project we’ve been working on, a secluded site situated in near the boarders of Greater London/Kent. The site is split partly with the Green Belt making the position of the home quite restricted.

The Ecology and landscape sensitivity with the natural gradient informed a light-touch structural strategy, elevating the building on ground screws and a stilted frame to preserve the existing ecology.

The architectural language draws from mid-century clarity and proportion, expressed through locally sourced timber and stone from Kent. The intention is for the home to operate with a highly efficient, near self-sufficient energy profile.

We’re now progressing this design toward a full planning application after a positive pre application and with our pleased client. Who’s also happy for us to share the project on our instagram.

Another project that we just got planning approved!
We are now working on the construction drawings so our clients can go out to tender and appoint a builder.
The ground floor extension will be a fantastic addition to the rear of the property, replacing an old extension. We will create that open plan feeling, also keeping some dividing walls, for the snug and dining area’s. The slides show the existing layout, but what you can’t see is how dark the hall way and middle of the house is, this design will allow the light through the hallway and down from the central dormer over the stairs. The loft will become the master with dressing rooms and bathroom.
The property sits in a exclusive area within a highly protected conservation area.
This project should be completed summer 2023 and looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

Another project that’s virtually finished, and finished to a fantastic standard by . A little bit further a field in Stock, Essex..
Our design extends and converts a two bedroom home to four, one which is a master with en-suite. We also connected the outhouse to the main house, altered the entrance which enabled us to create a fantastic ground floor layout. Multiple reception rooms and kitchen diner, office space, wc and utility..
This is also in a conservation area so needed detailed design and discussions with the planning department to obtain planning permission. So we are very happy with how this has turned out..

Projects big or small we love, especially with period properties.. this property was bombed damaged in the war and so had lost all its period features, our client didn’t mind this and wanted a modern and functional space. Additional bedroom and en-suite. From two bedrooms we created three doubles and en-suite by extending into the loft space. we then designed a wrap around ground floor rear extension which created a open plan kitchen, living and dining space..
We are really pleased how this project turned out meeting budgets and our clients wish lists.. .

Starting off the New Year with a few project updates.. This is one of 6 projects we have running in Farnborough Park, Orpington. have now nearly completed the landscaping and build, so we thought it’s an ideal time to post some updates.
We will do a reel later in the year showing start to finished once the rear garden and outbuilding is complete.

It’s sometimes not all about extending a property to get more space, it’s how we can reuse the existing floor area.. this project is a fine example.
Within our concept design we showed how extending would increase floor area but actually by renovating the space we can create this alternative which also meets the brief. Our client loved the second option and here it is nearly complete minus some furniture and the external landscaping..
By moving the lounge door and opening up the areas, the ground floor really connects together losing the original disjointed layout.
Our recommended builder for this project was who’s team have done a fantastic job.

Been a great morning, seeing another one of our projects develop! Here’s our Sidcup House design nearly complete!
This project is on the very edge of a conservation area, two applications for a dwelling were refused using another architectural practice!
So the challenge was on, our design idea would link the row of 1930’s houses to the 1960’s block of flats using a steep pitched roof.. Engaging with Bexley Council and the conservation officer we successfully had planning approved.
All in all this project would of cost approx 200k and will become a very unique looking two bedroom home, which we are proud to of designed..
We work clever and love a challenge, looking to do something different ? If so we are the architectural practice you need to talk to!

This project was designed and project managed by ourselves, there are questions as how involved you want your designer to be and financially is it worth it. We at ABD provide a flexible management services ranging from 3-10% of the build cost.
