Good solid start on our extension project in St Albans today.⁣
⁣
The first day of a build is always about setting up properly, checking access, working through the logistics and making sure everyone knows exactly what they’re doing.⁣
⁣
Despite the skip reservations, parking permits and all the usual St Albans admin that comes with working on roads like this, the skip delivery went smoothly and we were able to get stuck in.⁣
⁣
Big shout out to the neighbours for being so understanding.⁣
⁣
Today we chopped back the overgrown alleyway leading to site, got our site board up with all the drawings from , had the skip delivered, broke out the old patio and finally got some ground broken.⁣

A strong first day and a solid start to what’s going to be a lovely extension.⁣

𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗛𝗮𝘂𝗹⁣

Popped into Lawsons London Colney for a trade day and came away with some decent free kit! ⁣
⁣
The best part though was the conversations. Spoke to some great suppliers and reps, picked up a few numbers, got some useful product info and had a good chat about what other trades are using on site at the moment.⁣
⁣
Lawsons have been our supplier for around five years now and they’ve always been great to work with. The service feels personal, the team are easy to deal with and it makes a massive difference having a supplier who actually understands what you need on site.⁣

This project will transform the existing galley kitchen into a bright, airy space, with a stunning glass roof extension and Cotswold style stone creating a fresh contrast against the original building.⁣

𝗕𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗺 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗽

First and second stage prep underway at our bathroom in Shillington. Lino flooring down, shower tray set neatly at floor level, and the walls boarded ready for the next stage. This is the stage that sets the standard for the whole room.⁣
⁣
Good materials, proper equipment, correct prep and clean setting out. It all matters before the finished look comes together.⁣
⁣

𝗚𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗻 𝘂𝗽𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲, 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗹𝘆⁣
⁣
This one has come together beautifully.⁣
⁣
After building the brick-built lean-to shed here last summer, we were back to finish off the surrounding garden space with new fencing, grey Indian sandstone paving, Tuscan glow gravel borders and channel drainage.⁣
⁣
The new concrete posts and fence panels have completely sharpened up the boundary, while the sandstone patio and gravel edging tie everything together around the shed and side access.⁣
⁣
It’s now a clean, practical and properly finished garden space that complements the building perfectly. The kind of finishing touch that makes the whole area feel considered, not just “that bit round the side of the house” doing its best.⁣

𝗔𝗻 𝗲𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝗻𝗲⁣

These Victorian and turn of the century homes often come with huge master bedrooms, and in many cases, there is more than enough space to create an ensuite without ruining the room.⁣
⁣
On this one, we introduced an angled wall to help the new layout sit naturally within the space and allow the light to move around the room better, rather than boxing everything in like a sad little cupboard.⁣
⁣
We also managed to include a built in wardrobe with traditional panelled doors, bringing the storage back in without making it feel like an afterthought.⁣
⁣
The aim was to make the new work feel like it had always belonged there. We reinstated traditional details such as the coving and added the little window above the door to keep that period feel running through the room.⁣
⁣
Finished in Dulux Summer Linen, the whole space feels calm, warm and properly tied together.⁣
⁣
If you live in a semi detached Victorian property and have a large master bedroom, adding an ensuite might be much easier than you think.⁣

𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗼 𝗮 𝗦𝘁 𝗔𝗹𝗯𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲⁣
⁣
Looking back through some old project photos while planning a very similar extension we have coming up, and this one was too good not to share again.⁣
⁣
Designed by the talented Uskuri architects, this project was a brilliant blend of contemporary design and traditional St Albans character.⁣
⁣
Large glazing, exposed steelwork, open space and clean detailing, all brought together in a way that felt modern without feeling out of place.⁣
⁣
And being in a historic city like St Albans, you never quite know what you might uncover once work begins. On this one, we found a 12 inch Victorian sewer running straight across the corner of the extension, which was not shown on any records.⁣
⁣
Even with a few unexpected discoveries along the way, the project went very well and the finished result was something really special.⁣
⁣

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿⁣

This review was for three bathroom renovations and a brick side extension we completed for this customer.⁣
⁣
And now we’re back there again, this time working on the garden with a new patio and fencing.⁣
⁣
That’s exactly what we aim for. Not just a finished job, but a relationship built on trust, quality, and doing things properly.⁣
⁣
Because when a customer invites you back for the next project, that says more than any sales pitch ever could.⁣
⁣
A big shoutout to Rob as well, who gets a very deserved mention in this review. A true perfectionist, and a massive part of getting these bathrooms finished to the standard we expect.⁣

𝗙𝗮𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁?⁣

This customer didn’t want standard shelves above the oven. She wanted a dedicated space where each baking tray could be stored individually, instead of everything being stacked in one awkward pile.⁣
⁣
So this custom baking tray holder was designed to fit the space perfectly.⁣
⁣
It’s one of those small details that makes a kitchen feel properly thought through, not just picked straight from a catalogue.⁣
⁣
This is just one of the bespoke internals from this beautiful kitchen we completed in December last year. I still need to go back and photograph the rest properly, but this one deserved a post.⁣

No screws needed either. It fitted that well.⁣

George originally trained as an electrician on super yachts before moving into domestic electrical work. For a while, the business focused mainly on electrical jobs, but over time we realized our passion was not just in one trade. We enjoyed bringing whole projects together, creating beautiful spaces and helping people improve the homes they live in every day.⁣

As the business grew, our roles naturally found their place. Steve remains very hands on, managing the work on site and making sure the details are right. George focuses on the business side, from meeting clients and preparing quotations to planning projects and keeping everything running smoothly.⁣

It is a balance that works really well. Experience on site, organization behind the scenes, and a shared family standard running through everything we do.⁣
