As part of Fuel Poverty Awareness Day, we are drawing attention to our Connected for Warmth Scheme, which is designed to support vulnerable households living with health conditions and struggling to manage rising energy costs. This support is specifically tailored for off-gas households with health-related needs, helping them maintain a warm, safe, and comfortable home throughout the year.
The scheme offers a fully funded air source heat pump heating system AND up to £1,000 in energy bill support spread over two years.
Eligibility includes households where a member has a verified health condition worsened by living in a cold home, a member is over 70 years old, or a child in school years 3–7 lives in the home and receives free school meals.

Today is Fuel Poverty Awareness Day, a reminder that staying warm is not a luxury, it’s a necessity.
At Affordable Warmth Solutions (AWS), we’re proud to support this important campaign and continue our work to help struggling households.
Cold homes can make some existing health conditions, such as respiratory issues, worse and can have serious impacts on mental and physical wellbeing. This crisis affects not only adults but is also harming the health and development of a generation of children growing up in cold, damp homes.
That’s why our mission remains focused on providing practical help, and access to healthier and more comfortable homes for those who need it most.

The Future – We continue to actively address climate change through the transition to renewable heating solutions. Fuel poverty continues to affect millions of families, and we remain committed to making a lasting difference.
In our second decade of operation, this progress is made possible thanks to the continued support of National Grid, alongside matched funding from ECO and Government schemes.
In April 2026 we will review our schemes and assess the availability of funding.

The isn’t over. Six million families across the UK will still be living in cold, damp homes this winter. We’ve already made 229,178 homes warmer for some of the UK’s most vulnerable households, but the work is far from over. .

AWS are delighted to confirm its continued partnership with National Grid who have announced an additional £2.3 million funding package to support vulnerable households struggling with energy costs, across England and Wales.

AWS has received a grant of £385,000 from National Grid in addition we are matching this to create a fund of £770,000 that will enable us to provide free home low-carbon heating solutions and energy efficiency measures to households that do not qualify for government programmes.

AWS will launch this programme in time for this winter and will work in collaboration with other Grid for Good Energy Affordability Fund partners to support some of the most vulnerable low-income homes across in the country. AWS will partner with industry experts Quidos Ltd to provide Haydale Graphene’s JustHeat system, an ultra-efficient, low-voltage, graphene-based heating panel that delivers clean and consistent warmth with minimal energy demand.

We’re delighted to continue our partnership with National Grid that has seen us invest £millions in keeping low-income homes warm and comfortable. I’m also pleased to continue our programme of installing Air Source Heat pumps and also support the roll-out of Haydale's JustHeat system, an innovative low-energy demand solution that provides efficient and affordable warmth while easing pressure on the electricity grid."

We couldn’t do what we do without the support and partnership of 238 trusted UK supply partners who install the efficient heating systems we fund and offer ongoing support and advice for residents too.

For customers like Chelsea, living in a cold, damp home had a devastating effect on her son’s health – and the difference has been life changing. We’re proud to have helped Chelsea and a quarter of a million families just like hers.

There are still six million households living in fuel poverty. As the gets colder, Affordable Warmth Solutions urges the Government to find solutions to the UK’s energy poverty crisis to make sure no one is living in a cold, damp home this winter.
