This week we revisited a client who is adding an extension at the back of their house.

We installed 15 panels and a battery for them a few years ago, and with extra roof space, scaffolding already up, and electricity costs doing what they do, it felt like the perfect moment to add 6 more panels.

Great timing, and they’ll now make the most of that afternoon and evening summer sun.

If you’re melting today, a few practical energy and comfort tips that do not require buying anything:

- Close curtains or blinds on the sunny side of the house from late morning, open windows when it cools down later
- Shift “heat making” jobs like oven cooking, tumble drying, and heavy laundry to later in the day
- Fans work best with a plan, put one near a window in the evening to pull cooler air in
- Stay hydrated, and check in on anyone who might struggle with the heat

Solar note, purely because it’s interesting: days like this are usually strong for generation, so if you already have solar, it can be a good day to run the dishwasher or washing machine while the sun is doing the work.

Do solar panels need cleaning?

Most of the time, rain does a decent job. Unless you have heavy soiling (birds, dust from nearby works, tree sap), routine cleaning is not usually essential.

If you are seeing a noticeable dip in generation, it is worth checking:

- is there new shading (trees growing, scaffolding, extensions)
- is there a fault alert in the app
- is the system performing differently year on year

If in doubt, ask. Small checks can save a lot of head scratching.

We were in Norwich yesterday for the Greene King trade event, proudly representing C2 Renewable Solutions as a Value for Venues partner.
