Attic Insulation & Re-Plastering Works

The client contacted us regarding a cold attic room that was difficult to heat, particularly during colder months. They were looking to improve thermal performance without reducing any usable space within the room.

After assessing the area, we recommended the installation of an Isotherm insulation system, which allows for effective insulation without the need for additional build-up or loss of room size.

Works carried out included:

* Preparation of all existing surfaces
* Installation of Isotherm insulation system to external walls and ceiling areas where required
* Ensuring correct application to reduce cold bridging
* Application of plaster finish directly over the system (over skim)
* Finishing ready for decoration

This solution has significantly improved the thermal efficiency of the room while maintaining the original room dimensions, creating a warmer and more comfortable living space.

This room had a heavy old artex/toxx pattern on every wall and across the ceiling. Instead of trying to skim over such a deep pattern, the best solution was to overboard the entire room.

We installed new plasterboard on all the walls and ceiling to create a completely flat, fresh surface. Once everything was securely fixed, the whole room was fully plastered with British Gypsum Multi-Finish, leaving it smooth and ready for decorating.

Sometimes the quickest and best finish isn’t trying to fight the old surface — it’s starting fresh and doing it properly.

Client called us out with some serious damp issues in the kitchen. After inspecting the property it was clear there were multiple problems going on.

The kitchen was suffering from poor ventilation and extraction, which was trapping moisture inside the property and causing condensation issues. On top of that, a previous damp proofing company had installed cement render internally, and there was also corrugated cladding in the toilet, both of which were suffocating the brickwork and stopping the walls from breathing.

We removed the cement render and cladding and left the brickwork exposed so the walls can breathe and dry out properly.

We’ve installed a chemical DPC to address rising damp, along with a cavity membrane system which allows the walls that are being plastered to breathe while managing any residual moisture.

Next step is installing a humidity controlled extraction fan and a PIV unit in the loft to improve airflow throughout the property and prevent the damp from returning.

Sometimes damp problems aren’t just one issue… they’re a combination of ventilation, moisture and previous bad repairs.

When carrying out our inspection we recorded high moisture readings on the wall, along with visible efflorescence (salt deposits) forming on the plaster surface above the skirts clear sign that moisture has been travelling through the masonry and bringing salts to the surface.

To address the issue correctly, we removed all the contaminated plaster up to 1.2 metres high to expose the masonry and allow the wall to breathe. The brickwork was then treated with a salt neutraliser to help prevent hygroscopic salts from continuing to attract moisture.

This prepares the wall for the installation of a proper damp proof system and the correct re-plastering specification.

Another damp problem diagnosed and treated properly 👍🏻
