This year, we’re celebrating 20 years of Brendan Mooney at ACS Construction Group.

Brendan joined ACS as a Civil Engineer and, over the last two decades, has grown alongside the business, progressing into Contracts Manager, then Operations Director in 2020, where he led the delivery of our energy and utilities projects.

Along the way, he’s played a key role in some standout achievements for the business, including the delivery of the Synchronous Condenser facility for Siemens Energy on behalf of Conrad Energy.

Most recently, Brendan was appointed Managing Director of ACS Construction Group, a well‑deserved milestone that reflects his leadership, commitment, and impact over the last 20 years.

We caught up with Brendan to talk about his journey so far, the highlights along the way, and how ACS has changed over the years.

We’re delighted to announce that ACS Construction Group has been appointed as Principal Contractor by Statera Energy for the significant enabling works package on their landmark project to construct a nominal 680 MW / 1360 MWh Battery Energy Storage Plant at Carrington, Manchester.

Our scope of works includes the delivery of two key packages:

Package 1 – Early Works: Establishing site access, temporary haul roads, a culvert crossing, and the construction compound with welfare and office foundations, utilities installation, and initial management of invasive species.

Package 2 – Development Platform: Delivery of a fully engineered construction platform to support future stages of the project, incorporating major earthworks, slope stabilisation and retention structures, site drainage installation, and capping works across the platform.

Works commenced in early September, with site establishment and a substantial remediation and earthworks programme now underway to prepare the brownfield site, formerly associated with the Carrington Power Station, for the next phase of construction.

This appointment reinforces ACS’s growing capability and proven track record in the energy and renewables sector, where we continue to provide sustainable civil engineering solutions that support the UK’s transition to low-carbon energy infrastructure.

Statera Energy is an ideal partner for ACS, innovative, forward-thinking, and committed to delivering projects that will strengthen the resilience of the national grid. We’re excited to be working collaboratively to bring this strategically important energy storage facility to life.

Tomorrow evening, we’ll kick off a year of celebrations with our anniversary party, the first of many special moments to mark this milestone.

New Project Launch: Thermeco - Redevelopment of Haylers End Healthcare Waste Incinerator

We are pleased to announce that ACS Construction Group has been appointed as principal contractor for the redevelopment of the Haylers End Healthcare Waste Incinerator, working in partnership with Thermeco.

Thermeco acquired the former Malvern Clinical Waste Incinerator, located on the Modern Waste Solutions site in Hanley Castle, near Malvern.

In a move to revitalise the site and improve operational efficiency, Thermeco will redevelop the site with the removal of the outdated incineration unit and the installation of a new, state-of-the-art system bringing the plant back into operation and regulatory compliance.

As principal contractor, ACS Construction Group will deliver all associated civil and structural works. Our scope includes:

• Demolition of existing structures
• Concrete surface repairs
• Installation of associated drainage
• Construction of acoustic fencing
• Equipment and waste removal
• Reinstatement of cladding and roofing following installation of the new incinerator equipment

This redevelopment represents a significant step toward enhancing sustainable waste management in the region. We look forward to delivering a safe, efficient, and high-quality construction programme in collaboration with Thermeco and Stopford.

New Project Announcement:

ACS Construction Group is proud to share that we have been appointed as the Main Contractor by THOR Group for an exciting new development.

The project involves the delivery of civils and construction works for a new packaging area, including the formation of a robust concrete hardstanding to support the storage and loading/unloading of product into Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBCs).

Scope of works includes:

Excavation and filling
Construction of concrete hardstanding
External lighting installation
Protection of existing underground services
Drainage works
Installation of a storage tank
Soft landscaping

Today, Roisin Grady visited our apprentice engineers, Sam Medina and Harry Hayde, on-site at our project for Essar at Tranmere Oil Terminal.

Roisin joined us as a Business Development Executive last year after graduating from the University of Liverpool, and both Sam and Harry are currently employed as Apprentice Site Engineers while they complete their BTEC HTQ Construction (Civil Engineering) qualifications at the Stockport College.

Works are progressing well on our construction of a new 8-bay EV charging station for Fastned in Greenock at the Holiday Inn Express, beside the A8 at Cartsburn.

In 2019, we were appointed as the civil engineering and construction partner for Fastned UK. Fastned is building a pan-European network of superfast charging stations which all electric cars can use to charge.
