Due to the size and capability of our training facility at APRAS, we are fully equipped to run double training courses without compromising training quality or instructor support.

We’ve been having some really interesting conversations recently around suspension intolerance (suspension trauma) in rope access.

It’s clear there are still quite a few differing views out there.

So we wanted to open it up for people to think about -

Scenario:
A technician is found unconscious, suspended on rope following a fall. No immediate access from below. Standard rope access rescue kit available. Trained team on site.

👉 How are you approaching this?
• What are your immediate priorities once you reach the casualty?
• Are you prioritising rapid descent, airway positioning, or something else first?
• How are you managing positioning during and after rescue?
• Has your approach changed in light of more recent guidance?

Although it's unlikely, it’s interesting to understand how people are interpreting current guidance and applying it in real-world scenarios for if it was to happen.

Our latest IRATA rope access course is underway this week at the APRAS training centre - Teessides number 1 Rope Access Facility.

The week starts with rigging and system setup as candidates begin their IRATA rope access training with us.

A big part of the course focuses on understanding the principles behind safe rope access systems - from correct rigging and anchor selection through to equipment checks and safe working practices.

Building that foundation early in the week ensures candidates develop and renew the competence and confidence required before moving into more advanced practical elements.

A really positive end to the week at our rope access training centre. 🧗

Following a full week of training and IRATA assessments completed on Friday, all technicians were successful, with results ranging from very good to excellent - a great reflection of the effort put in throughout the course.

Well done to everyone who took part, and a big thank you to Dean Farley for delivering the training and assessments to such a high standard.

Solid preparation, strong results, and another group of technicians ready to head back on site.

A strong end to last week at our rope access training centre. 🧗

Following four days of training covering rope access theory and practical competence, all candidates successfully passed their IRATA assessments on Friday.

Well done to everyone involved - a solid result that reflects the effort put in during training and the importance of preparing technicians properly for work at height.
