PROJECT COMPLETE | LANDSCAPING DESIGN & BUILD
⚲ Doval Gardens, Staffordshire

After five days on-site with Biba's Landscaping, the transformation is complete, and our clients couldn't be happier with their new outdoor space.

Here's what we delivered:
• Full landscape redesign with 3D render concepts and site visit
• Natural stone paving with contrasting dark border detail
• Lawn installation

Really proud of this one, and of everyone who worked on it.

We have a few landscaping spots remaining for this year. If you're thinking about transforming your outdoor space, now is a great time to get in touch.

Day 5 at Doval Gardens, and what a difference a day can make!

We started the morning with bare soil and ended the day with a lush, freshly laid lawn. 🌱

Before the turf went down, the topsoil was prepared and levelled to give it the best possible start.

The timing couldn't have been better really, the mix of rain and sunny spells we've had is close to ideal conditions for new turf. Rain keeps it moist and helps it root without stress, while the sunny spells give it the light it needs to establish.

Final photos coming on Monday.

We are officially about to kick off on site at Project Hillcrest in the Staffordshire countryside next week.

Before our team can begin construction works for the rear extension, side extension, and front porch, we first had to bring in the team at Sixtowns Waste to carry out enabling works.

That means a full back to brick strip out, conservatory removal, and asbestos removal. Creating a clean, safe, and well-prepared site with no nasty surprises.

That's all completed now, so we'll be setting out and excavating the foundations early next week.

A huge thank you to Ben and the Sixtowns Waste team for getting the site ready for us.

Things are moving fast on site at Doval Gardens, and we're starting to see the material selection come to life in detail.

We've gone for Stonevalley's:
⚪ Light cream porcelain paving for the patio
⚫ Anthracite plank picture frame edging to border

Most people might not even notice the darker edging when the garden is complete, but it's one of those subtle architectural details that ties everything together and gives the space a more finished, intentional feel.

This is the benefit of having architectural input on your landscaping project. The details are considered at the design stage, not decided on the day.

Great progress continuing at Doval Gardens, Staffordshire. 🌿

With the space cleared and levelled, the team headed over to Stoke-on-Trent to collect the patio materials from Stonevalley.

We've gone for a light cream porcelain stone laid in a clean grid pattern, with a dark slim-line stone edging to frame and define each zone.

You can really start to see the layout taking shape now, with the tiered levels, the steps, and the different areas of the garden all coming together beautifully.

We had the pleasure of welcoming Viktoria, an architecture student from Loughborough University, to the team last week for a work experience placement. 🎓

She jumped straight into a live residential project in Yorkshire, bringing fresh ideas and a brilliant design eye to the brief. She also put her stamp on some of our internal documents and processes that will make a real difference to how we present our work to clients going forward.

It was a genuine pleasure having her energy and talent around the office, and we wish her every success with the rest of her studies.

A huge thank you to Vika for her hard work, enthusiasm, and positivity throughout the week. ✨

Work is well underway over at our landscaping project at Doval Gardens in Staffordshire 🌿

Here's a look at the first day on site.

The existing lawn has been cleared, the space has been measured out in line with our design plans, and the groundworks are done. We're already ahead of schedule and aiming to complete a full week early.

Next up, patio slabs! Keep an eye out for updates as this one starts to take shape. 👀

We're incredibly proud of Alexandra, Lucas and Finlay for successfully completing the Get Up Give Back midnight-to-sunrise hike up Mount Snowdon over the weekend 🏔️

Between them, they have raised an amazing £845, contributing to the wider GUGB initiative which has now raised an incredible £91k towards their £150k target.

A huge thank you to everyone who donated and supported them along the way.

All donations support the vital work of SameYou, Dementia Adventure, and OSCAR's Paediatric Brain Tumour Charity – organisations doing life-changing work for those affected by brain injury, stroke, and dementia.

The donation link is still open for a few more days.
If you'd still like to support the cause, now's your chance!

Earlier this week, Alexandra was back at The King's CofE Academy in Stoke-on-Trent, hosting a careers workshop class for some of the students.

When most teenagers think about architecture, they might think of impressive contemporary buildings, famous landmarks, and the creative or technical side of design. But one of the key points Alexandra wanted to share was that: good architecture is always about people.

Using a real residential project, Alexandra challenged the students to calculate the potential build cost and gave them an insight into the many different careers involved in bringing a project to life.

A big thank you to The King's Church of England Academy, and everyone involved in organising the session. We loved the opportunity to show young people how varied our industry can be, and the different routes available to them.

We're looking forward to welcoming two of their Year 10 students for work experience later this month and giving them a behind-the-scenes look at what we do.

Let’s talk planning – one of the most complex stages of a build project.

Even when your designs are clear, it still has to be carefully aligned with policy, context, and how it’s interpreted by the local authority.

Take this eco-home we’ve been working on for example. 👇🏼

Following a change in case officer at Colchester Council, and working closely with a specialist Planning Consultant, we’re now preparing a revised resubmission.

Our role as Architect here is to bring clarity and direction – refining the design, coordinating input, and ensuring the scheme is strategically positioned for approval while staying true to what our client wants.

The project will remain a full prefabricated, low-impact home, developed with both design intent and planning strategy in mind.

If you’re currently navigating planning right now, stick with it – it’s all part of the process!
