If your horse is stabled, it’s time to start thinking about spring turnout! 🌼Here are a few of our favourite tips to help your horse adjust safely and comfortably:
🌞 Morning & Evening Grazing
Let your horse graze during times when grass sugars are lower—typically early morning and late evening. This simple change can help reduce the risk of laminitis, especially in sensitive horses and ponies.
🏡 Stabling Check-Up
Make sure your stable is ready for unexpected bad weather, injury, or illness. Use the warmer months to tackle any repairs or plan for upgrades so you're not caught off guard later in the year.
⏳ Less is More
Gradually reintroduce turnout. Start with short grazing sessions while you handle stable chores—this helps your horse transition smoothly from hay to fresh grass.
⭐ Paddock Penning
Need to limit grazing? Paddock pens offer a great solution. They allow for movement and socialisation while controlling grass intake. You can even add sand or other non-grazing materials for extra control.
🐎 Keep Moving
Take advantage of the better weather to increase activity! Retired or lightly worked horses can benefit from lunging, long reining, or even gentle walks in-hand to help manage weight gain from lush spring grass.
