Thunder... Thunder... Thunder... FUNDERFOAM!

For anyone of a certain age, the name might sound like it belongs in a Saturday morning cartoon rather than a production facility. While it may not summon the Sword of Omens, a Funderfoam plays an important role in keeping Food & Beverage processes running efficiently.

From breweries and dairies to beverage filling and wastewater treatment, excessive foam can create all sorts of challenges; reducing process efficiency, impacting product quality and even causing unnecessary downtime.

That's where the Funderfoam comes in. By helping control and manage foam generation throughout the production process, manufacturers can improve operational stability, maximise throughput and reduce waste.

For engineering and maintenance teams, it's another example of how small process improvements can make a big difference to productivity, reliability and overall plant performance.

The ThunderCats were busy fighting Mumm-Ra, today's maintenance teams are battling downtime, inefficiency and rising operational costs.

Fletcher Moorland have recently had this unit in for maintenance and we found that due to a mech seal failure, the units bearings had been damaged by water ingress. We’ve completed our repairs and the unit is heading back to customer.

You'll have seen some of the fun in the reel we posted earlier today, but here's a bit more on yesterdays activities.

We hosted the second of our Introduction to Electric Motors courses, led by Matt Fletcher, welcoming two more apprentices from CBRE for a hands-on introduction to AC, DC and servo motor technologies.

The aim is simple: provide engineers with practical knowledge they can take straight back to site. As they'll be involved in planned preventative maintenance (PPM) activities, we focused on helping them understand how motors operate, what common failure indicators look like, and where opportunities for efficiency improvements can be identified.

By understanding the fundamentals, they're better equipped to spot developing issues before they lead to costly breakdowns and unplanned downtime.

Of course, learning should be engaging too. The Van de Graaff generator certainly delivered some memorable results, as you'll see in the video below!

At Fletcher Moorland, we're committed not only to maintaining critical equipment but also to helping develop the skills and knowledge needed to keep it running reliably.

Whether you're planning a shutdown, carrying out preventative maintenance, or dealing with unexpected equipment failures, our team is here to help diagnose problems and deliver practical engineering solutions.

Keep your hair on!

It's not just practical, hands on learning!

We do incorporate a little fun as well, like stepping into the van de graaff salon, for a fresh new look!

Thanks to the apprentices from for being such good sports and getting involved.

We think it was Benjamin Franklin who said,

“You tell me I forget, you teach me I remember. You involve me, I learn”

That’s exactly what Fletcher Moorland are aiming to deliver through the, “Introduction to Electric Motors” courses devised and ran by Matt Fletcher, ( on instagram).

We welcomed apprentices from to our workshops in Stoke-on-Trent and let them get hands on with understanding Electric Motors. We’ll be doing more of the same today.

If you’ve apprentices in your business who’d benefit from an understanding of Electric Motors we’re building up a waiting list for future courses.

Drop us an email to [email protected] and we’ll be in touch when fresh dates are available.

Fundraising Update!

Our, Around the World in 80 Days challenge is nearly complete, with a little over 1500 miles to go! This has been a Mammoth effort by all the team at Fletcher Moorland , especially from Alex Wynne and Matt Chidlow who’ve both completed over 3000 miles on their own, they’re having a well earned sit down!

How’s that looking for money raised for the Dougie Mac?

Well, thanks to the incredible support of our customers, suppliers, friends and family we’re currently raised £46,215! That’s 57% of our overall target!

That’s why we need you to please keep giving! Whether it’s £2 or £2000, whatever you can afford will go direct to the Dougie Mac and help them to provide their frontline services to children, young adults and adults who require palliative or dementia care, as well as supporting their families and loved ones.

We’ve achieved so much already, but we’re hungry to hit the £80K.

Thank you to everyone who’s supporting our 80th Anniversary fundraising campaign!

Fletcher Moorland are here to help keep your equipment running and to prevent it failing in the first place. We’re not just invested in maintaining equipment, we’re committed to developing future engineers. This is both directly in our business and across the wider repair and maintenance industry.

Matt Fletcher will lead by running two, “Introduction to Electric Motors” courses over the course of this week. Supporting one of customers apprentices in getting to grips with electric motors, how they operate and how to safely disassemble and reassemble them.

It’s hands on with some great fun elements throughout, as we’re sure previous attendees would attest to.

We’re looking forward to having learners onsite with us this week.

It’s Stoke on Trent Day!

Following the success of the centenary year celebrations we get to celebrate everything Stoke-on-Trent once more!

This year is especially significant for Fletcher Moorland as we celebrate 80 years of supporting industry with Stoke-on-Trent always being our home! Founded in 1946, we were up Hanley duck, providing Motor Rewinds for the post war industries of Stoke. Coal Mining, Iron and Steel Works and of course, The Potteries!

80 Years on and Stoke is still our home, but our influence on keeping industry running has grown. We support businesses and organisations the length and breadth of the UK with rotating equipment repair, industrial electronics repair, precision engineering, reliability services and condition monitoring systems.

It’s down to the work carried out in our workshops on Elenora Street, Stoke that your energy is generated, food reaches your table and you get to experience the thrills and spills of theme parks, as well as playing a key role in keeping many other industry sectors operating efficiently.

As a third generation family business, we’re proud to call Stoke on Trent our home and are looking forward to celebrating at where else, but at the home of Stoke City Football Club, the BET365 Stadium this coming July.

Happy Stoke day Duck!

We visit all kinds of sites, from deep mines to aerospace manufacturing. It’s fair to say for our driving team no two days are the same as they collect and return units from our customers.

On occasion though, you do get to see some dramatic sites. Like this view taken by Rob while delivering out in Tywyn Wales.

With our inhouse team and trusted network of couriers serve the whole of the UK with industrial maintenance services, morning, noon and night.

Our 365 days a year, 24/7 manned workshop is here to react when your breakdown happens. We can get to work as soon as the unit arrives, no waiting on the 9-5pm or over the weekend. We do our upmost to limit your downtime, helping you keep production on track!

Who’s got the next Instagram worthy location for us to visit?

Fletcher Moorland work with many key players in the Renewable Energy sector on keeping their equipment operating.

Those working in wind energy will likely be interested in the images below. Those PCB’s pictured have been purposely designed and built by in our Drives & Controls department.

We’ve said before that “Testing” is perhaps the most important element of any repair. Testing on arrival to identify faults, testing during and after repair to ensure that our customers can be confident that once the unit is received at site it can be installed and run as anticipated.

The latest project from our team is a dedicated Pitch Control test rig, enabling us to simulate the behaviour of repaired Enercon Power Pitch CS82 board and Control Board Pitch PCBs within our workshop environment.

For wind turbine operators, pitch control systems play a vital role in both turbine performance and safety. While replacing failed components and repairing damaged circuit paths is important, the real confidence comes from being able to verify functionality before the unit is reinstalled.

Through investing in application-specific testing capabilities, we're helping renewable energy operators reduce risk, minimise repeat failures, shorten maintenance interventions, and extend the service life of valuable assets.

At Fletcher Moorland, our objective is simple: repair equipment properly, validate its performance, and help our customers maximise the lifespan of their assets while reducing unnecessary waste and replacement costs. For those cultured enough, we’re aiming for a “triggers brush” solution (you can let us know if you get that reference in the comments).

If you’re working in the renewables sector and are looking for a partner to support your maintenance teams, we’re ready to help!

Joe may be our Technical Manager, but that doesn't mean you'll never find him at the repair bench.

When we caught up with him, he was investigating a PCB from an Anybus ProfiHub. At first glance, there are no obvious signs of failure. The board is clean, with no evidence of burning, damaged components or any catastrophic fault.

However, as many electronics engineers know, some of the most challenging failures leave little visual evidence.

Following initial assessment and diagnostic testing, the assigned engineer identified that the unit was drawing excessive current. Using thermal imaging, an area of concern was highlighted, prompting further investigation.

Joe is now carrying out a detailed PCB inspection using illuminated magnification, checking for subtle defects such as:

• Cracked or dry solder joints
• Damaged PCB tracks
• Failed surface-mount components
• Corrosion or contamination
• Other signs of component-level degradation

A reminder that successful industrial electronics repairs are rarely about replacing parts at random; they're about understanding the root cause of failure.

📢 We're currently recruiting Electronics Repair Engineers.

If you have experience repairing, fault-finding or maintaining industrial automation equipment, we'd like to hear from you.
