Money saving tips for winter…
HEATING:
Lower the flow (radiator symbol) temperature for the heating system to around 55-60°C, install smart controls like a room thermostat and timers, and maintain the boiler with annual servicing to keep it efficient.
Use thermostatic radiator valves, and ensure radiators are clear and free of air (bleeding) downstairs to upstairs when the system is cold, ensuring you set the pressure correctly via your manufacturer instructions.
HOT WATER:
On a combi boiler, the ideal hot water setting is generally between 50-55°C for efficiency and safety, though some settings may go up to 60°C. Find the temperature control dial or digital display, often marked with a (tap symbol), to adjust the setting to your preference. A slightly lower setting is more efficient, as heating water to a very high temperature only to cool it with cold water at the tap wastes gas.
WATER STORAGE TANKS:
If you have a water cylinder/tank, changing the flow temperature may not be right for your system.
The water stored in the cylinder needs to be kept at 60°C or higher. This is to reduce the risk of harmful legionella bacteria growing. Bacteria can grow in the cylinder if the flow temperature is set too low.
