City of Sunderland Model Engineering Society Welcome to the CSMES page. The club Is based in Roker Park and offers rides to the public free of charge on weekends (weather permitting).

Welcome to the City of Sunderland Model Engineering Society's page. We are located in Roker Park, Sunderland, a very attractive venue right on the sea front. Most weekends, see us giving rides to the public on our multi-gauge railway. But railways aren't the only thing that interest our members. We have access to an excellent model boating lake, so our marine modellers are well catered fo

r. Many of our members are interested in other kinds of engineering - traction engines, steam cars (the paths make excellent roadways), steam engines and turbines, ic engines - just to name a few. Whatever your interest, we'll be glad to welcome you.

Are you ready for a ride on the train?
We will be starting our running season on Easter Saturday (19 April) and will be open Easter Sunday and Easter Monday from 11am to 3pm. Then we'll be back to running on Saturdays and Sundays.
Of course, always weather permitting!
Come along and join us; we'll be very happy to give you a ride.

Well, it's that time of year again, the weather getting colder and not so many people in the park, so we will be closing down our operations until next Easter.
You might see us around the track, but we'll be busy with essential maintenance, making it safe and comfortable for our passengers.
Thank you for your support throughout this year, we couldn't do it without you.
See you all again in 2025.

Well, its summer holidays again, so we will be running our trains on Tuesday and Wednesday between 11 am and 3 pm (as well as weekends) for the next 6 weeks. This of course is dependent not only on the weather, but the availability of volunteers. Even our members need holidays, but we'll do our best to run the trains.

Well, the weather Gods are playing silly b..s again, so I'm afraid we won't be running today. (Sat. 27 July).
Hopefully, it should be good tomorrow, so we will run our trains then.

The Chester le Street Steam Fair, due to take place this weekend ( 13 + 14 July) has been cancelled due to the incessant rain of this last week.
As the rain is likely to continue over the weekend, it is doubful whether we will be able to run our trains in Roker Park. Sorry.

Hello. Just a reminder that this Sunday, 30 June, is our Open Day. Lots of our members' models on display and, of course, rides on the train. 11am to 3pm. Why not come and join us.
It's also the Model Boat Club and Friends of Roker Park Open Day, so there will be a lot to see.

You made our Easter weekend a very busy one - even if we couldn't manage the Monday (weather again!). Thanks to all our happy passengers.
I'm afraid the forecast for this coming weekend is absolutely lousy! So I'm sorry, but we wont be running.

We're Back.
We will be running our trains over the Easter weekend, Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 11 am.
(Provided that the weather gods are kind to us.)

Just to let you all know that, although we're finished running our trains until Easter, we are still very busy with our maintenance schedule, making our facilities as safe and as comfortable as we can for all our lovely passengers.
We'll be back.
