Works are now underway at the historic China Tea House, at Beckett House in Shrivenham.
Works include essential shoring to the walls, bordering the entrance to the Tea House and a full cantilevered access Scaffold to the perimeter of the Tea House, providing full access for roof works.
The Tea House, thought to be built in 1635, is a Grade 1 listed building and understood to be the first and one of the oldest pieces of surviving garden architecture in the county, so planning has had to be meticulous, liaising directly between the client and our design team to ensure that every precaution was taken to protect the building during the build of the Scaffold, utilising the building shape and openings to prevent the need to tie to the structure whilst carefully planning out leg load locations to distribute the weight evenly due to the cellar beneath the tea house.
Keep an eye out for progress updates as the team begin works on the Cantilever Scaffold.
