We're rounding off T Levels weeks by sharing Charlie Waite's story...

After learning the basics of construction with a Level 1 carpentry course, Charlie decided he wanted to take the next step.

"After exploring all the sectors that construction has to offer, I know now that I want to progress to be a project manager one day."

During his T Level with Beard and Abingdon and Witney College, he's certainly challenged himself. Charlie's been working on a variety of projects - including the Aspen Building in Oxford - and learning new skills along the way.

Congratulations to Charlie for making such a cracking start on his construction career, and to all of our T Level students!

Since she was little, Ellie-May Di**le has been intrigued by what goes on behind the construction hoardings.

The T Level that Beard runs in partnership with Abingdon and Witney College has given her hands-on experience of real, working sites.

Ellie's spent time at Passivhaus project Pusey Lane, Hertford College and at the new visitor centre being built at Stonehenge - which was, in her own words, "very, very iconic!".

It's also given Ellie an insight into the reality of working as a woman in construction:

"I imagined the sites would be very male-dominated but it was the complete opposite. Everyone is so welcome and caring.”

"I like seeing the buildings come alive!" 🏗️👷

When Josh King found himself standing at a crossroads, he decided to embark on a construction T Level with Abingdon and Witney College and Beard.

Josh has been able to get stuck in, meeting the myriad of people involved at each stage of the construction process.

The skills and experiences he's racked up have also confirmed his decision to pursue a career in design.

Josh shared his own advice for anyone thinking about a T Level opportunity:

"If someone was interested in construction, I'd say - give the role a go. It may surprise you, and it's great fun!"

It's T Levels Week, and we're celebrating the students taking their first steps into the construction industry.

Through our partnership with Abingdon-and Witney-College, Beard is offering concrete (excuse the pun) workplace experience.

Working alongside our teams, the T Level students explore everything from surveying to project management, build their teamwork skills and discover the many careers construction has to offer.

Our Social Value Coordinator Rachel Bird has worked closely with the College to create meaningful opportunities for the students, both in the classroom and on site.

She talks about how the partnership first came about, and the impact it's having on aspiring construction workers.

More than 350 riders. Six hours. 4,484 miles. One fantastic team effort! 🚴

Our Oxford Cyclathon event raised an incredible £24,150 for six local sporting clubs and organisations: Falcon Boat Club, Lifts & Sprints, Oxford Elite Basketball, Rose Hill Youth FC, Oxford Harlequins RFC, and Oxford Community Action.

Luke Bennett was part of the team that organised the Cyclathon, in a space provided by our partners the University of Oxford.

He spoke about the impact the money raised will have:

"23% of children in Oxford are still living in poverty. The clubs [we've chosen] reach out to the more disadvantaged postcodes, where there are barriers to access for sport."

Work is progressing apace on the RAAC roof replacement project for QEH School 🏗️

Construction Manager Richie talks us through the works, which have included the removal of the roof, installation of a new mezzanine floor to provide additional space at the school, and rebuilding the new roof over the top, which features a new dormer.

Internally, new staircases have been built and ancillary areas refurbished.

When Jade Holland Cooper asked us to construct a space that felt "connected, collaborative, and distinctly reflective of the Holland Cooper brand", we knew this would be a special project.

The result: a 70,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art world headquarters for an iconic British company.

This landmark build involved the complete transformation an old industrial shed into corporate offices, design showrooms, a full photographic studio and an editing suite.

Needless to say, we were delighted with Jade's feedback. In her own words:

"This building reflects how far we’ve come as a brand, while staying true to the ambition and belief we started with."

Take a look at Porsche Bristol, Cribbs Causeway.

For this prestigious brand, crisp lines and attention to detail were key and we had to carefully manage the build sequences to get the quality finish.

The building is the first Porsche centre in the country to have red LED strips on the corner of the building – which took meticulous collaboration between multiple suppliers.

This is one of eight projects we’ve completed for Dick Lovett, and the fourth car dealership Project Manager Chris Jones has worked on – and for Porsche loving Chris, it was a joy to be part of.

“I’ve grown up loving cars, Porsches especially – I used to have Porsche posters on my wall as a little boy!” he said.
