Low ceiling, heavy lift ✈️

Sometimes the best thing you can do for an ageing transformer is retire it.

We’ve just replaced a client’s transformer on a site right next to an airport. The proximity meant strict limits on lifting height, so a crane was off the table. Instead, the new unit, all 5,930 kg of it, went in on skates, guided by a forklift and spreader beam.

Our team carried out the replacement and energised the new transformer quickly and safely, keeping our client’s downtime to a minimum.

Regular asset maintenance (oil tests, inspections, keeping on top of wear) is still the right way to look after a transformer. But there comes a point where replacing it is the more sustainable, economical and practical choice.

Ultra-rapid charging meets 1950s diner nostalgia 🥤⚡

Fastned’s newest UK hub is officially open at OK Diner Cromwell on the A1 northbound, with 12 ultra-rapid charging bays at up to 400kW each.

The launch went full 1950s, with live music, a classic Porsche 911 converted to electric and a signature Fastned milkshake.

Behind the scenes, we delivered the electrical infrastructure from the point of connection to the feeder pillars on site, working alongside Toureen and the DNO. Two substations, the HV cable to feed them, 110m of earthing and two LV feeder pillars, all installed, tested and energised for drivers.

Our Project Manager Natalie reflected on the project delivery:

“It has been a pleasure to be part of the delivery team for this project, working closely alongside both the DNO and Civils teams. As with any project, there were challenges along the way, but through collaboration, commitment, and a shared focus on success, we have delivered a high-quality end product that everyone involved can be proud of.”

Visual site checks only show you half the story. To truly protect high-voltage assets, our O&M team carries out intrusive maintenance, taking equipment offline to safely open up switchgear, transformers, and circuit breakers for deep physical and electrical inspection.

Inspecting internal contacts, testing insulation integrity, and checking mechanical operation allows our engineers to identify hidden wear or degradation before it triggers a costly unplanned outage.

Just as important as the physical work is what happens afterwards. Following every inspection, our team delivers comprehensive, detailed reports packed with high-resolution photos, test readings, and clear engineering findings. This gives asset managers a complete, up-to-date historical record of their infrastructure while highlighting any early warnings before they become major operational issues.

Where an issue is identified, our priority is always targeted repair, replacing specific worn components to restore full reliability without unnecessary expense. What a week at Solar & Storage Live 2026.

It was a brilliant few days at the NEC. Having our biggest stand to date gave us the room to catch up with partners, developers and suppliers from across the sector.

Project Announcement: New 132kV Data Centre Grid Connection

We've been appointed as principal contractor to deliver the end-to-end 132kV infrastructure connection for a major new data centre in the capital.

Laying 1km of high-voltage route through central London means overcoming tight physical constraints. In combination with trenching across complex obstacles, the project requires two separate horizontal directional drills (HDDs): one beneath a canal and another at a major road crossing.

Behind the scenes, the engineering complexity is just as high. Delivering maximum uptime for a data centre demands a fully redundant supply, meaning two primary circuits, dual transformers, and twin sets of foundations. From complex grid studies and long-lead plant procurement through to managing canal consents and street works permits, our in-house teams are managing every stage of the build right through to final energisation. ⚡

Work continues right on our doorstep at Panattoni Park Swindon.

Powering an industrial estate spanning 7 million sq ft and 26,000m of HV cable is a massive undertaking. With phase one complete, our team is now well into phase two of this site build, installing the next round of Ring Main Units (RMUs) to support the park's expansion.

The momentum on-site isn't slowing down. With the Ministry of Defence already letting out one of the major units, the development is already proving its strategic value. Our engineers are managing the complete infrastructure package on the ground: handling physical installation, cable pulling, complex terminations, and final commissioning.

It’s brilliant to see this level of industrial investment happening so close to our Swindon HQ, and we're looking forward to keeping the power moving as new units come online ⚡
