Perhaps the biggest root cause of the energy inefficiencies in these properties is the fact they are predominantly naturally ventilated so much of the heat energy the insulation retrofits are retaining is being lost to atmosphere. No mention of this fact anywhere because this report is the result of siloed thinking and guidance like PAS2035 that does not recognise it and even facilitates it.

Lets be clear. Damp and mould problems are not as simple as many surveyors and contractors large and small will have you believe. Understanding true root cause and knowing how to fix permanently requires a whole lot more than knowing what relative humidity is or how to diagnose and treat structural damp defects or installing a fan on a wall somewhere. Furthermore symptom treatments like mould washes and anti mould paints do not provide permanent prevention and leave occupants exposed to other serious health risks.

Every week we come across "solutions" that havent worked for these reasons. Where qualified surveyors and installation contractors just got it wrong yet they think they got it right. Endemic ignorance is and has been the bane of the damp and mould industry for decades.
