Bringing an Old Stone Barn Back to Life 🧱🏡

We’ve recently started the rebuild and repointing of this beautiful traditional stone barn, bringing it back to life while keeping the character and heritage of the original building.

For projects like this, using the correct materials is just as important as the workmanship. We’re using traditional lime mortar rather than modern cement-based mortar, as lime allows the stonework to breathe and naturally manage moisture.

Lime is particularly important in older stone buildings because it is more flexible and breathable, helping to prevent trapped moisture, frost damage and deterioration of the original stone. Cement mortar can be too hard and impermeable for traditional masonry, potentially causing the stone itself to suffer over time.
It’s all about using traditional methods and materials that are sympathetic to the building and designed to stand the test of time. 💪

Another traditional stone project underway — we’ll share the progress as it takes shape!
