Driving for a Cause: Teesside to Lake Como Challenge

This June, our Managing Director Will Brown is proud to be taking part in an incredible 6-day driving challenge from Teesside to Lake Como, Italy — all in support of Teesside Hospice.

Dates: 23rd – 28th June 2026

Alongside an amazing team, he'll be covering hundreds of miles across Europe, pushing himself both physically and mentally, all to raise vital funds for an amazing local charity that provides compassionate care to those who need it most.

What’s involved?

A 6-day driving challenge across multiple countries
Teamwork, endurance, and a shared mission
Raising awareness and funds for Teesside Hospice

Teesside Hospice does incredible work supporting people with life-limiting illnesses and their families. Every donation and share truly makes a difference.

This October, our Group CEO John Betts will be raising money for the wonderful people at Daisy Chain by taking on a challenge across remote and historic sections of the Great Wall of China — one of the world’s most iconic and demanding trekking routes.

As someone whose close family member has been affected by Autism/ADHD, this cause is very close to his heart.

As the INDUSTRO Engineering Group celebrates its 10-year anniversary this October, it feels particularly fitting for John to be raising money for such an important cause — supporting a charity that makes a real difference in the local community and giving something back to the area that we work and operate in.

The Great Wall may test John physically with its steep climbs and endless steps, but it pales in comparison to the daily challenges many autistic and neurodivergent people experience in a world that doesn’t always accommodate their needs.

Daisy Chain supports over 8,000 families and neurodiverse individuals each year through specialist, person-centred services. These include social clubs, respite care, wellbeing support, independent living skills, employability programmes and animal therapy.

VERTEX provides a comprehensive setting out service that forms a key part of preparation on any construction site; our experienced setting out engineers carry out detailed surveys and have worked across a wide range of sectors including petrochemical, rail, and highways.

Setting out is a core service across all projects we undertake, including tunnels, bridges, and roads. We accurately transfer building plans onto the ground using precisely positioned control points and markers for elements such as excavations, foundations, kerbs, and site drainage.

Our team will maintain quality control, coordinate update meetings, and plan and organise the works required to ensure your project is delivered safely, on time, and within budget.

Our colleague Matt Hermon, pictured here with BBC Radio's Gary Philipson and fellow fundraiser Katie is taking on an extraordinary challenge — a 3-day trek across the Sahara Desert — to raise money and awareness for Zoe's Place Baby Hospice Middlesbrough, commencing on the 19th of March.

Zoe’s Place provides a true home from home for babies and infants who are living with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions. The hospice offers palliative care, specialist respite, and end-of-life care, supporting not only the children but also their families during the most difficult times.

Despite the vital work they do every single day, Zoe’s Place receives very little funding and relies heavily on donations and fundraising to continue providing this incredible support.

Matt’s Sahara trek is more than just a physical challenge; it’s an opportunity to help raise awareness and funds for a charity that gives comfort, care, and dignity to some of the most vulnerable children and their families.
