This week is No Falls Week.

What is ‘working at height’?
- Any work in a place a person could be injured if they fell
- Under UK regulations there is no fixed minimum height that automatically defines working at height

Examples of working at height:
- Ladders, scaffolds, rooftops, raised platforms, cherry pickers, near open edged, pits, manholes or trenches
Regulatory requirements:
- Conduct a risk assessment
- Implement control measures such as guardrails, safety harness or fall arrest systems
- Ensure proper planning, supervision and training
- Use appropriate equipment

Working at height can also be a few feet off the ground, if there is a risk of injury from a fall.

Fridays Focus: Safety Week Wrap-Up

As Construction Week comes to a close, we reflect on a week that reinforces our ongoing commitment to protecting our people.

This year’s focus is Recognise, Respond and Respect has provided a strong framework for addressing the persistent challenge of serious injuries and fatalities (SIFs) across our industry. Through deeper engagement, a mindset of continuous improvement, and strong collaboration with our trade partners, we continue to raise the standard for safety on every project.

Safety Week may be over, but at QiRC our commitment to safety continues every day.

Thursdays Focus: Respect

As part of Construction Safety Week, today's focus highlights the importance of respecting the plan.

Effective planning is critical to every stage of a project. Failing to follow an established plan or not reassessing when conditions change can lead to serious safety incidents. Respecting the plan goes beyond simply following instructions; it means committing to a culture where safety is embedded in everything we do.

At QiRC, we empower our teams to speak up and collaborate openly throughout every phase of the project. By doing so, we strengthen our collective responsibility to prevent serious injuries and fatalities (SIFs) and eliminate STCKY (Stuff That Can Kill You) hazards.

Respect the plan. Trust the process. Protect each other.

Wednesdays Focus: National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls

Today we are proud to support National safety stand-down to prevent falls as part of Construction Safety Week.

Falls remain one of the leading causes of fatalities and life-changing injured in our industry, yet the reality is that nearly all fall-related incidents are preventable. With the right planning, equipment, communication and awareness, we can significantly reduce these risks.

Effective fall protecting depends on consistence and correct use, every task, every time. There are no shortcuts when it comes to safety.

At QiRC, we encourage everyone to speak up, take the time to assess risks, and choose the safer approach, by looking out for one another, we help ensure that every team member is safe.

Tuesdays Focus: Respond

As part of Construction Safety Week, today’s focus is on taking action.

Responding means more than reacting after an incident, it’s about acting early to prevent harm before it occurs. Once hazards are identified, we must integrate safety into every stage of planning, prioritising direct controls and adapt quickly as site condition evolve.

The most effective protection comes from eliminating, reducing, or isolating hazardous energy through thorough planning, engineered safeguards and verified field conditions before work begins.

At QiRC we are committed to proactive safety – turning awareness into action to ensure every task is carried out safely from the start.
