We are delighted to celebrate the successful opening of Tendring Community Energy in Clacton on Thursday 4th June 2026. The event marked an important milestone, and it was wonderful to see such strong community support and engagement.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Councillor Ivan Henderson and Councillor Anne Oxley for attending and formally opening the hub and supporting this significant occasion. Their presence helped make the event especially memorable and demonstrated the value of partnership between local government, community organisations, and businesses.
Special recognition must also go to the Colchester Institute for their support and encouragement, Community Energy Pathways for their continued commitment, Simcotts for their professional advise and guidance.
We are also extremely grateful Pureprints and Bee’s Cleaning Service and C.P Handyman services for the shop-front signage and decoration. Thanks also to everyone else whose contribution and support has helped to bring this initiative to life. We greatly appreciate the assistance provided and the collaborative spirit shown throughout the project.
The successful launch has created exciting opportunities for future cooperation, and we look forward to building on these relationships to develop further community-focused initiatives and cultural exchange opportunities in the months and years ahead.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to making the opening such a success.
Lastly none of this would have been possible without the support and funding from the National Lottery Community Fund, whom we shall be forever grateful.

☀️ Did you know that today solar power is providing around 43% of Britain’s electricity at peak times?

That’s not just a national success story — it’s a huge opportunity for Tendring too.

From rooftops on homes and businesses to community energy projects and carefully planned solar developments, Tendring has the potential to generate enough clean electricity to power tens of thousands of homes while helping to lower bills, cut carbon emissions and keep more energy investment local.

This is about more than electricity. It’s about:
🔋 Energy security for our communities
💷 Lower energy costs over time
🌱 Cleaner air and reduced emissions
👷 Local jobs, skills and investment
🏘️ A stronger, more resilient Tendring

Every solar panel installed locally helps build a cleaner and more affordable energy future for our district.

Take a look at the infographic below to see what solar power could mean for Tendring 👇

🌿 “How Much a Family of Four Can Save Each Year ”?

💧 Reduce Thermostat by 1°C

• Typical saving: £80–£100 per year
• Based on UK Energy Saving Trust estimates for a gas‑heated home.
• Bonus: Reduces carbon emissions by ~300kg CO₂ annually.

🔥 Boil Only What You Need

• Half‑filling the kettle vs full: £20–£30 per year
• Kettles are one of the highest‑use appliances in UK homes.

💡 Switch to LED Bulbs
• Replacing 10 halogens with LEDs: £60–£90 per year
• LEDs last 5–10× longer and use up to 80% less electricity.

🔌 Use Smart Plugs
• Eliminates “vampire power” from TVs, consoles, chargers, routers.
• Typical saving: £30–£50 per year

🧺 Wash Clothes at 30°C
• Lowering wash temperature saves £15–£25 per year
• Modern detergents work perfectly at 30°C.

🚿 Shorter Showers
• Cutting 1 minute per shower for a family of 4: £40–£60 per year
• Even higher if using an electric shower.

🧯 Turn Off Lights When Leaving Rooms
• Simple habit change: £10–£20 per year

🧮 Total Potential Annual Saving
£255 – £375 per year
For a typical family of 2 adults + 2 children.
