Next on the list for the Caddy build was to widen the rear tubs to accommodate the new 15x10 rear wheels. The existing tubs were cut and widened 1Β½" and welded back together. About six miles of existing mig welding has been buffed and dressed back all the way around the perimeter of what bed floor had been fitted ontop of the original bed floor, existing welds all dressed where the fabricated tubs meet the inner bed sides too. The whole rear panel below the tailgate was removed, all rust repair and rust treatment carried out as usual. New rear panel fabricated and installed. The new bed floor has started going in too, fabricated in separate panels and plug welded to the chassis to give a nice smooth clean look. πŸ™‚

Part 2 of 2
Caddy bed floor fully removed, 1Β½" tube crossmembers installed to support the new bed floor. Lower rear cab all cut out and a new close in panel fabricated. Inner bed sides all cut out, cleaned, treated with rust inhibitor, copper primed. New inner bed side close in panels fabricated and installed. All new panels are flanged and drilled for plug welds, all welds are dressed and all flanged edges will be seam sealed. This now forms a good base to allow us to build forwards into the cab floors and also backwards into the bed floor & new tubs πŸ™‚

Caddy developments πŸ™‚
Part 1 of 2
Rear 4 bar brackets cut out, existing chassis leg removed to make way for new tube uprights to support new 4 bar brackets. There are two diagonal tubes that form the roll cage that tie the rear chassis into the main hoop for additional rear chassis support. New prop hoops made up to tie chassis legs together and to support the new prop tunnel. Stock rear wheel arches cut and stretched two inches to accommodate the new rear wheels & tyres. Due to the size of the rear tyres, the wheel tubs needed to be widened slightly, after digging into the bed we realised the bed floor had no main supports other than two tubes to support the axle hump, all the 1.0mm sheet bed floor was removed in preparation for added supports.

Original 72 Corvette in for a full service & spanner check. Spare wheel carrier factory lock had failed so was replaced with a fabricated stud & nut set up to make the spare wheel easily accessible. Full service carried out comprising of engine oil & filter, spark plugs, fuel filter, transmission fluid & filter, rear axle gear oil & friction modifier additive, air filter, full brake fluid flush & set up the timing correctly. One of the front calipers was leaking so it was stripped, cleaned and rebuilt with new seals & O rings. The dates on the tyres flagged up that they were 18 years old, so these were replaced with fresh BF Goodrich rubber. Car safely delivered back to the customer πŸ™‚

A massive milestone for the Zephyr Zodiac build. The 398ci Cleveland built by Kenny Gomez at SuperPowerUnlimited has returned to the workshop via Engine Data Analysis for its new engine break in procedure & a full dyno session.

The Ford C4 transmission has been fully rebuilt and supplied with a purpose built torque converter by TCT Racing Converters/DYNAMIC Racing Transmissions it now boasts a full manual valve body, reverse pattern & trans brake.

A 1/8" motor plate was made to get the torque converter gap in the 1/8" to 3/16" region.
The engine & trans is now final fitted in the car and the plumbing is now well underway πŸ™‚

Other parts recently installed are the 3 inch core aluminium radiator with two large Spal fans, aluminium radiator expansion tank, screenwash bottle and jets and a WOSP - WOSPerformance starter motor.

The narrowed front bumper is now finally fitted on the car and will be finished by a front number plate mounted underneath in the centre.

More progress to follow πŸ˜‰
