In addition to the tables, the access to work students have also been learning carpentry by building a frame for a garage door to fit on. Once the frame was built, they safely secured the door onto the wooden frame. Doing this showed them how to work with wood and taught them how to use equipment like a tape measure and hand saw in the correct safe manor

this week our access to work students built tables from scratch using scaffolding pipes and key clamps. this taught them key skills about working with metal.

Our Access to Work students have also been busy over the past few months stripping down an old boat to turn into a fish pond.

🚤 To begin with, they safely manoeuvred the boat into the barn ready for work. It was then checked for any holes or damage that would prevent the boat from holding water and patched up any damage found. It was then sanded down ready for painting. Once it had been painted they looked around site for a place to put it.

🗺A suitable area had been found to place it and enlisted some help from a small excavator to dig out the stubborn bit of ground where it would eventually sit. In the final and what seemed like the most satisfying steps, it was decorated to look like it was a boat out at sea and filled with water ready for the fish. 🌊

🐟 It is now home to 3 happy fish who seem to be enjoying life in their new home.

After a busy few weeks onsite our Access to Work students have renovated and converted an old shipping container into a stable ready for the arrival of a horse 🐴
