Here’s a video explaining what it is and why it was traditionally used in masonry.

Galleting is the process of pressing small pieces of stone or brick into mortar joints. It was commonly used on historic buildings to improve durability, reduce mortar shrinkage, and create a distinctive decorative finish.

If you can hear a bit of background noise, that’s because we’re filming on a live site while carrying out restoration work—real projects, real conditions! 🔨

We’re lucky enough to be working at the historic Clitheroe Castle Keep this week, carrying out specialist masonry conservation works.

Our team is undertaking pointing works using traditional hot lime mortar, helping to preserve the fabric of this remarkable structure while allowing the stonework to breathe and perform as intended.

We’re also carrying out galleting on the larger joints, a traditional technique that not only enhances the appearance of the masonry but also improves the durability and integrity of the mortar joints.

It’s a privilege to play a small part in conserving such an important piece of local heritage for future generations.

LABOURER WANTED

We are looking for a labourer to join our team over the next 6-8 weeks to assist on a number of upcoming projects.

Job role will consist of:

• Mixing & loading up
• Keeping site clean & organised
• Maintaining mixing stations & scaffolding areas
• Assisting tradesmen on site as required

Applicants must:

• Hold a full driving licence
• Be prepared to commute to site or to Chorley for transport to jobs
• Have previous experience within the construction industry
• Be reliable, punctual & hard working

Wages are dependable on experience, work ethic & punctuality.
