Advetec Helping businesses to reduce residual waste, save money and improve environmental performance with the UK's only on-site aerobic system.

We’re halfway through the year and it’s worth asking a simple question – is your waste strategy still working as hard as the rest of your business?

For many businesses, waste sits in the background until a cost spike or a compliance deadline pushes it to the forefront. However, the companies making real progress treat it as a strategic decision, not an afterthought.

A few things worth reviewing this month:

♻️ Are your current processes efficient?
♻️ Where is waste costing you more than it should?
♻️ Could a smarter approach support both your sustainability goals and your bottom line?

At Advetec, we help businesses look at waste differently and find more strategic, practical ways to manage it.

A small shift in how you think about waste can build real momentum for the months ahead.

Advetec’s goal isn't just to treat difficult, non-recyclable waste. It's to turn it into something with real commercial value.

After the rapid digestion process, what's left is a clean, dry material called post-process floc. Typically, it has a moisture content below 15% and a higher calorific value than the waste that went into the XO.

From there, you have options, depending on your waste stream and what you need:

♻️ Use the floc as Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF)
♻️ Process it further to extract recyclable fractions like glass and plastics
♻️ Send waste to landfill or EfW, at a highly reduced mass and volume

That flexibility is the point. A single difficult waste stream stops being a cost and disposal problem and becomes a resource you can route towards fuel, recycling, or both. Instead of asking how much it costs to get rid of waste, you can start asking what value you can recover from it.

As the UK prepares for increased plastic collections under Simpler Recycling and pEPR, attention must be given not only to expanding recycling capacity but also to improving the quality and recoverability of materials entering the recycling system.

Significant volumes of plastic remain trapped within difficult-to-recycle waste streams such as anaerobic digestion de-pack rejects and offensive washroom waste, where contamination can limit recycling opportunities. By reducing the organic fraction of these materials, Advetec's biotechnology helps create a drier, more stable output that supports the separation and recovery of plastics for recycling. Unlocking value from these traditionally challenging waste streams will be essential to maximising resource recovery, increasing domestic feedstock availability and supporting the UK's circular economy ambitions.

The Reimagining Recycling report commissioned by Viridor and written by Ceres provides a compelling and evidence-based assessment on both the challenges and opportunities facing the UK's plastics recycling sector. The report demonstrates that the right policy framework and market signals could unlock nearly £6 billion of private sector investment, support the creation of circa 8,000 skilled jobs, and significantly expand domestic recycling capacity, helping to reduce reliance on exports and imported recycled materials. This is crucial given the direction of travel implemented with Simpler Recycling and pEPR, both of which will see thousands more tonnes of plastics collected that require recycling.

Beyond the environmental benefits, the report clearly articulates the economic opportunity presented by a stronger domestic recycling sector. Increased processing capacity would strengthen UK resource security, stimulate regional economic growth, attract long-term infrastructure investment and support the transition to a more circular economy.

Businesses prioritise contractors with proven environmental credentials and the ability to gather Scope 3 data when making their choices. Our innovative technology enables you to do just this, through enhanced environmental performance and measurement.

Advetec technology helps reduce associated greenhouse gas emissions by over 70% while stabilising waste by removing organic material that would otherwise continue to break down and generate methane.

Conversations around carbon, compliance, and resource use are going nowhere, and as expectations continue to grow, practical waste solutions will play a bigger role in business performance.

World Environment Day reminds us that environmental progress depends on practical solutions that work at scale.

For businesses managing difficult waste streams, the challenge is often not recognising the problem but finding a commercially-viable alternative to landfill or incineration.

At Advetec, we use biotechnology to transform hard-to-handle waste, helping organisations reduce waste volumes, lower disposal costs and move material higher up the waste hierarchy.

We’re actively reducing reliance on landfill and low-level incineration and proving that waste innovation is already delivering positive change.

Sustainability targets matter, but measurable operational change matters more.

Rising waste handling costs are putting more pressure on operational decisions.

For businesses looking for greater financial certainty, waste strategy needs to do more than manage disposal. It needs to support performance, cost control, and long-term resilience.
Advetec’s technology helps reduce treated waste mass by 50%, creating a more efficient path for handling non-recyclable waste.

It can also convert that waste into SRF, offering a practical alternative that can help reduce transportation costs.

It’s a smarter way to align commercial priorities with more sustainable operations.

Innovation in waste processing matters most when it delivers practical value. The truth is that progress depends on solutions that work in the real world, not just on paper.

That means rethinking waste as part of a wider operational strategy:

• Smarter resource use
• Stronger process efficiency
• More resilient business operations

At Advetec, we help organisations view waste differently and explore more practical ways to reduce costs and build their green credentials. No greenwashing, just transparent and meaningful data.

As May comes to a close, the focus shifts from progress made to what comes next.

For businesses reviewing their waste strategy, this is a good time to ask:

• What’s working
• What needs to evolve
• Where smarter systems can support stronger performance

At Advetec, we’re part of the ongoing conversation around practical, forward-looking approaches to waste and sustainability.

Time for some number crunching. In the UK alone, millions of tonnes of waste end up in landfills or low-level incineration every year.

14.8 million tonnes of commercial and industrial mixed residual waste go to landfill or incineration, along with nearly 0.5 million tonnes of other non-recyclable waste streams containing organic matter.

Our biotechnology can help convert these waste streams, such as washroom waste or AD de-packaged waste, into a valuable resource – SRF.

If just 5% of this waste could be transformed to replace coal in energy-intensive industries, the impact would be monumental – over 300,000 tonnes of CO2e prevented from entering the atmosphere and nearly 200,000 tonnes of coal saved from being mined.

Our biotechnology has the power to revolutionise waste management.

Sustainability should be about performance, not just perception.
For many businesses, waste strategy now sits at the intersection of compliance, cost control, and operational efficiency. It’s no longer a side initiative; it’s part of how forward-thinking organisations drive growth, manage risk and build future-proofed systems.

At Advetec, we understand that modern businesses need solutions that support both environmental goals and day-to-day performance.

Check out our customer case studies to see how waste handlers, from large-scale infrastructure and leisure facilities around the world, to local waste recycling sites, are using our technology to go above and beyond for their customers.
