A couple of dangerous situations encountered in the past week. During a routine annual service, something was preventing the flue analyser from being properly inserted into the flue. On dismantling the flue, what was left of a screwdriver was found. This must have been there since the boiler was installed 17 years ago, and the corrosive flue gases had eaten the metal of the screwdriver away.
At another customer, builders had moved a boiler into their new kitchen area. The boiler didn't work and made a noise when running. On investigation it was found the inner flue tube was missing causing gases to mix and create dangerous levels of carbon monoxide.
Both these situations highlight the importance of using a Gas Safe registered installer and having your boiler regularly maintained.
