On Tuesday, Alexander James Contracts welcomed local residents, a representative from Red Kite Community Housing, and local Marlow Town Councillors to their Meet the Contractor event for the Shelley Road development in Marlow. The former garage site on Shelley Road will be transformed into two new two-bedroom affordable homes for rent, helping to provide much-needed housing for local people. The development will also deliver additional parking provision, including two dedicated spaces for each new home and six further spaces for visitors and local residents.

The event provided an excellent opportunity for residents to meet the Alexander James Contracts project team, ask questions, and share valuable feedback. Parking was one of the key topics discussed, and in response to the volume of comments received, Alexander James Contracts is exploring ways to deliver the new parking spaces earlier within the construction programme so that local residents can benefit from them sooner.

Residents also raised questions about delivery vehicles. Alexander James Contracts was able to reassure attendees that minimising disruption remains a priority throughout the project. Most deliveries will be accommodated within the secure site compound, with vehicles safely managed by designated banksmen. For any major activities, such as the delivery of the mainframe later this summer, residents will receive advance notification letters at least one week beforehand.

We believe great places are built not just for people, but for nature too. That’s why we’ve funded a new Wildlife Legacy Garden for residents. The application was led by Shan, a Red Kite tenant, who was a key driver in pushing the project forward and gaining support from other tenants at New Court. Working in partnership with Red Kite Community Housing, residents at New Court in Marlow, and local artist and wildlife advocate Natasha from ArdenWild, we have been transforming an underused corner of the development into a thriving wildlife haven designed to support both biodiversity and community wellbeing.

The project focuses on carefully managing vegetation while protecting and enhancing habitats for local wildlife, with a particular focus on hedgehogs. Despite its modest size, the area provides an important refuge for nature within an urban environment and demonstrates how small interventions can make a significant difference.

The space is developing to include:

🌿 Native wildflowers, bulbs and ferns to support pollinators
🦔 Hedgehog baskets, hedgehog highways and dedicated drinking stations
🐦 Bird boxes and habitat features for nesting wildlife
🐝 Bee hotels and insect-friendly planting
🪵 Log piles, stumperies and rotting wood habitats
🌱 Compost habitats and climbing plant trellises
💧 Rainwater collection to support local wildlife
🌳 Natural chestnut and hazel fencing designed to blend with the environment

Beyond its ecological benefits, the project creates opportunities for residents to connect with nature, relax outdoors and strengthen community ties. Residents at New Court can share stories of their hedgehog sightings, creating conversations, friendships and a shared sense of ownership over the space.

Natasha helped shape a vision that brings people and wildlife closer together, proving that even the smallest wild spaces can have a meaningful impact. This initiative reflects our commitment to delivering social value alongside construction projects, leaving a positive legacy that benefits communities long after the works are complete.

We're proud to support our Executive Assistant, Jeanett, as she takes on an incredible challenge for a fantastic cause.

On Saturday 13th June, Jeanett will be walking an impressive 26.5 miles as part of the Thames Path Mighty Hike, raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

It will be a long day, with plenty of miles, determination and undoubtedly some sore feet along the way, but we're sure she'll smash it.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at our Meet the Contractor event for the Shelley Road development in Marlow 🤝.

The project will transform a former garage site into two new affordable two-bedroom homes for rent, alongside additional parking for residents and visitors.

It was great to speak with local residents, along with Red Kite Community Housing and local councillors, answer questions, and hear valuable feedback. Parking was a key topic of discussion, and we're now exploring opportunities to deliver the new parking spaces earlier in the programme where possible 🅿️.

We’re pleased to announce that we have secured the Archway Road Passivhaus development for a local authority client 🏡.

This important scheme will deliver 10 high-quality family homes designed to exceptional energy efficiency standards 🌱, helping to reduce both environmental impact and long-term running costs for residents.

The development will be powered by heat pumps ♨️ and solar panels, supporting a more sustainable approach to housing delivery while creating comfortable, future-ready homes for the community.

Alongside the homes themselves, the scheme includes a private landscaped courtyard set back from the main road, incorporating dedicated play space for children and providing a safer, more welcoming environment for families 🛝.

We’re pleased to announce another new project win for delivering 19 new homes in Croydon for a Housing Association 🏡.

The scheme at Addington Road will provide a new 4-storey apartment block comprising 19 high-quality dwellings, alongside associated parking, drainage, and external works.

This project continues our commitment to delivering much-needed new homes, working closely with Housing Associations and Local Authorities to create sustainable, well-designed communities.

Earlier this Spring, Paul joined us as a Quantity Surveyor, bringing valuable experience to our expanding commercial team.

More recently, Paul visited Mulberry Academy to speak with students about careers in construction, sharing insights into the role of a Quantity Surveyor, the opportunities available across the industry, and his own career journey.

The session was delivered in partnership with Construction Youth Trust as part of our ongoing commitment to creating meaningful social value and inspiring the next generation of construction professionals.
