NE Electrical

NE Electrical Hello and welcome to NE Electrical, your one stop electrical, automation and EV shop. Do you or your company need 1 or more EV charging equipment installing?

Domestic, Commercial and Industrial Electrician, EV charging equipment installer and automation engineer on hand for all of your electrical needs. Having worked in the electronics sector since high school, then retraining to be an electrician in the noughties, I have a vast wealth of knowledge both electrically and electronically, in both installation and fault finding. Whether it's electrical or

automation, domestic through to industrial, simple or complex or even needing a custom system designing and implementing, I'm your man to design and project manage from start to finish. I have worked on a vast array of automation equipment as well as access control with a proven record of fault finding in everything electrical. I can project manage this from risk assessment and notifying the DNO to design and installation. I also enjoy collaborating with other companies on a sub contracting basis to help see a project through to the end. Get in contact and lets see how we can wire the future together.

Gotta be honest,
Yesterday for the first time in a long time............. I felt alive!!!!

Was asked to attend a site I've not been to for a number of years to fit and wire up an interlock system designed by someone remotely.

After hours of tracing wires then connecting up the said interlock, it worked 50% and didn't quite work 50% ........ enough that H&S wouldn't have been happy. Ended up leaving it for the day.

Whilst I've been working today, the solution hit me "Don't think about how you want it to work, think about how you don't want it to work"

I now have the answer, just need to draw the diagram of how to "modify the modification."

I love doing stuff like this, finding solutions!!!!!

This is without doubt the worst example of refereeing I've seen.

Think a period of retraining is in order.

The last couple of days I've been working on a gate in Otley.
I visited this property a couple of weeks back to service the gate and give it a thorough health check including investigating if the buttons in the house can still be used if the automation system is removed........ I like challenges like this!

The residents have been there for approx 18 months and informed me the property used to be owned by an ex electrical engineer who worked for BAE (British Aerospace Engieering)

He, back in the day wired the whole property up for sensor automation, not only controlling the gate, but also giving warnings of alarms and potential hazards all over the property. It was built using a custom PLC system and VERO board interfaces (if you're like me, from an electronics background you'll understand VERO board).

The safety system and activation of the gate were all run through this home automation system.

I did in the end manage to trace out the system, complete all the work including keeping the operation from the buttons in the house, allowing the old automation system to be removed.

Good feeling day!!!!

OFFICE POLITICS

I may be self employed now as an electrician and automation engineer/consultant.

But I've also been ...

The stupid naive college boy,

The stupid naive college boy on work placement,

The stupid naive trainee now in the work place,

The vulnerable trainee in the work place who should really take his lead from the fantastic work force around him,

The trainee who made wrong decisions,

The trainee who was suddenly brought down to earth with a bump.

The employee who was entrusted to work down south and repair equipment.

The employee who was offered a job for double the money to move down south because of his abilities whist doing the said work down south.

The employee who was advised due to his abilities to transfer to a sister company to go on service around London and the home counties.

The employee who after moving back to the north with his then family was overlooked many times for progression left the industry in favour of a different challenge.

The employee who one day was seen by someone who said "I want you as my SENIOR engineer with a view to being technical manager."

The employee who was senior engineer working with a team who required education in perimeter security automation.

The employee who enjoyed every single day working with a team of people who not onl enjoyed learning things, but enjoyed having banter on a job.

If we had beef it was sorted there and then.

If someone needed support, we were each that shoulder that could be relied on.

We were a TEAM.

I may have been senior engineer, but only in technological knowledge.

Onsite we were equal, office politics didn't come into it. Issues were sorted at street level and we all had respect for one another.

My decision to resign and go freelance was because of just that, office politics affecting my personal life.

I'll be the first to admit I miss the team, they were like my sons and I'm still in contact with all of them.

Office politics destroy teams doing the work that pays!!!!!

I was recently asked for a reference by a FM company looking to take me on board.... here is one of them from a man called Chris Berry.

"I run the RTM for Marmaville Court in Mirfield. I do this alongside working full time as a CAD engineer for Bentley Motors.

NE Electrical installed and commissioned the new control and access system to the main, sliding cantilever gate in October 2025. From the very first meeting, Andy displayed an excellent understanding of the practical implementation of effective safety features.

While working on the main gate, he identified the faults with the adjacent pedestrian gate that had left it unsecured for as long as I can remember. We were told this couldn’t be fixed without replacing the main intercom box on the wall. Andy was able to repair this with something he had in his van which immediately restored the locking functionality and entry code release.

He has since been back and repaired further faults as well as fitting a bespoke closer.
Whilst in the middle of doing this job he also found and fixed the intermittent problem that had affected all our lamp posts.

We have 65 apartments on this site, all with intercom handsets and remote opening of gates and stairwell doors. Many of our leaseholders are elderly, some have reduced mobility and are particularly vulnerable. Andy was able to modify the installation in one apartment so that the resident could answer the intercom and operate the remote opening from their landline/housephone rather than having to get up and walk to the hallway to use the wall mounted handset.
As well as being an excellent technical exercise that exceeded the client’s expectation, the work inside the apartment was carried out to a very high standard – a nice, tidy installation in a discreet housing, tucked away in a wardrobe. I think the majority of contractors would have taken the far easier option of just mounting all the works on a wall somewhere that suited them.
Andy has carried out a complete overhaul and refit of our exit gate. Everything from the motors in the ground to the induction loop to the safeties and everything in between, all carried out in three days. Without a before and after picture, you wouldn’t appreciate the difference this work made. A job really well done.

In six months, we’ve gone from 3 unreliable, unsafe, not secure gates and a load of faulty intercoms and access panels to everything working sweet as a nut.

I would have no hesitation in recommending NE Electrical to anyone for any electrical work. Andy’s got extensive technical knowledge, a great attitude, he’s a straight talker, he’s easy to get on with and the job gets done."

You may remember I recently posted about a project I was involved with.
This was completed yesterday, modifying an existing Videx intercom system to divert the call through to the wireless home phone.
With the help of Videx Security Ltd this was made possible.

BTW I'm not the biggest fan of trunking but needs must.
