Alwitra Evalon vsk fully bonded and insulated flat roof complete with freefoam fascia’s! Lindab guttering! And a vertical aspect to a disused water tower
Balnakiel craft village, Durness
The initial phase of the job was to create clear access for works! We then carried out a visual and mechanical inspection of the existing roof felt and patched it where necessary, this part was vital as moving forward the felt is acting as the vapour control layer for the insulation.
A kerb around perimeters was then formed and sealed using dpc with a fillet of trowel mastic! This creates the encapsulation of the insulation and left it ready for the fascia’s to be fitted!
The insulation was then installed and bonded to the existing roof before being covered with the Alwitra! This stage was carried out over a number of days
The seams in all laid Alwitra were then fully welded at this point the roof became watertight
Now for the tower!….. problems!!! Inside the tower was a large metal defunkt water tank that had been repurposed and used to store diesel which powered a kiln for use in firing pottery! Unbeknown to us there was still 400 litres inside! We drained it then broke a big hole inside of tower and removed! Once the tank was out we removed the floor it sat on and installed a door and a window so as a feature could be made in the future
We then strapped, sheeted and clad the tower with Alwitra fitted vertically and installed a standing seam profile
Next were the drip edge and water check trims to the entire perimeter fully welded to roof finish!
Last but not least gutters…. Bit of bling!!
Results speak for themselves! We are off back to this job in the start of 24 to strip, make alterations and put back into use for the next generation!!
