🏗️ Behind our carbon neutral status was one of the most technically demanding jobs we've taken on: mapping nearly 67,000m³ of ready-mixed concrete across 175 individual mix designs to third-party verified Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs).

No generic emission factors. No shortcuts. Just verified, product-specific data.

It's this level of detail that turns a carbon claim into a credible one and it's exactly the kind of work our price work division carries out every day, often behind the scenes.

📊 Carbon footprints aren't just about fuel and energy, most of the impact often comes from materials, supply chains and the things a business buys in, not just what happens on-site.

That's exactly why achieving carbon neutral status meant something at Fortel Group. We didn't just offset the easy parts, we measured everything, including that hidden category known as Scope 3 emissions, which makes up 88% of our total carbon footprint. Far more than most companies even attempt to capture.

Being carbon neutral isn't the finish line for us, it's the proof that honest measurement works. We're continuing to use that data to drive real change: increasing regional procurement to cut transport emissions, and working closely with suppliers to improve data quality across the chain.

The recent heat has been a reminder that site safety isn't just about the work being carried out - it's also about the conditions we work in.

High temperatures can increase the risk of dehydration, fatigue, reduced concentration and heat-related illness, particularly for those working outdoors or carrying out physically demanding tasks.

Across our projects, teams have been encouraged to stay hydrated, take regular breaks, use shaded rest areas where possible and look out for one another throughout the day.

If a colleague looks affected by the heat, check in. If you're feeling the effects yourself, speak up.

Everyone deserves to go home safe at the end of the day, whatever the weather.

We're delighted to be announced as the first recipients of the newly unveiled LTC Kent Roads Safety Shield, a new award recognising those who go above and beyond in supporting a strong safety culture on the Lower Thames Crossing project.

June's Safety Shield was awarded to Fortel in recognition of our outstanding commitment to safety and the support we've provided in helping deliver training across the project, including Asbestos Awareness, Manual Handling, Plant & Vehicle Marshal, SMSTS, EUSR, NVQ Level 2 & 3, and Slinger Banksman courses, delivered as and when requested.

Our willingness to share expertise and collaborate closely with the Kent Roads team has helped shape a safer, more skilled workforce and that's something we're genuinely proud of.

Congratulations to the whole team and to everyone else out there, let the friendly competition begin!
