Taping and jointing is a method that we employ for finishing dry lined walls, mostly in commercial settings as a quick and effective alternative to plastering. Most of the time, it’s typically used on new partition walls, where the ‘tape’ will be used to bridge a gap.
After taping, the remaining joint is filled and sanded to smooth down the surface area. The joint is usually sanded at the end so that you are left with a smooth and uniform finish on your walls. Taping and jointing is a valuable method for finishing a room as it takes only a fraction of the time that plastering the walls would take.
The most basic difference between plastering and taping and jointing is that, when plastering an area, we apply different tapes to all of the joints in the boards, before skim coating the entire surface of the plasterboard with plaster.
However, with taping and jointing, we would still tape all of the joints but apply three coats of joining compound to the joints only. Once we’ve finished the jointing process we would then sand down the jointing compound to a perfectly smooth surface.
Whenever we take on a job that requires this service, we always make sure to use one of our qualified painting and decorating contractors to undertake the work. All of our tradesmen are fully trained and are more than capable of using the specialist equipment that’s needed for sanding down surfaces. They also always ensure that they use connecting vacuums to keep dust spread to a minimum in commercial buildings.
