We believe community events play a vital role in sparking curiosity and showing young minds the real world impact of a career in science and infrastructure. Another great project completed by our Fabrications team!

Working with Midland Metro Alliance, we designed, manufactured, and installed a new fire escape for the West Midlands Metro Operations Control Centre (OCC) at the Wednesbury Tram Maintenance Depot. The fire staircase was finished off with intumescent paint, roof cladding and a water management system.

A huge thank you to Advanced Structural Detailing, Evtek, Tema, and our sister company ESL for their collaboration throughout the project.

Did you know most hi-vis garments are only certified for up to 25 washes? Once they go beyond the manufacturer's wash limit, they may no longer meet BS EN ISO 20471 requirements.

The problem is that damage isn't always obvious. Reflective tape can lose performance, fluorescent colours can fade, and dirt or grease can reduce visibility long before a garment looks worn out.

Last week we were delighted to host a PPE Engagement Day with the Alliance, bringing together colleagues from across the business to explore the PPE range and engage directly with product specialists.

From the newly launched ladies' PPE range to ARC protection and visitor specifications, attendees had the opportunity to ask questions, share their experiences and provide valuable feedback that will help shape future developments.

A big thank you to Leo Workwear, Beeswift Limited, Betafit PPE, V12Footwear and Stalsen - Keeping Hands Safe for their support and expertise throughout the day.

Every breath we take at work should be a safe one.

Respiratory health can be easy to take for granted because the damage caused by inhaling airborne dust, welding fumes, or chemical vapours rarely happens overnight. It builds up silently over years, transforming invisible daily exposure into long-term conditions.

World Lung Day serves as an important annual reminder that clean air in the workplace is not a luxury but instead a fundamental right and crucial standard of safety.

At BCS Group, protecting our team's lung health is embedded into how we operate every single day. Long before any work begins, we conduct thorough risk assessments to identify potential hazards and determine the exact controls required.

Where airborne risks exist, our first priority is capturing contaminants before they ever reach the breathing zone. We achieve this using advanced local exhaust ventilation, from mobile extraction units to our permanent Kemper Air Scrubber in the Fabrications Workshop. When extra individual protection is needed, our Fabricators use Tecmen V3 powered respirators equipped with high-efficiency P3 filters to ensure clean air is delivered directly to the worker.

Seeing the volunteers hard at work at Black Country Food Bank is a constant reminder of how much effort goes into keeping our local community supported.

As our Charity of the Year, we wanted to help their team out in a practical way that makes their daily operations just that little bit smoother. Their volunteers spend countless hours moving stock around the warehouse, unloading deliveries and preparing parcels for families in need. Proper hi-vis vests are essential for keeping everyone safe and comfortable while they carry out that vital work.

We recently put our in-house branding facility to good use by creating a dedicated batch of customised hi-vis vests for the foodbank. Having fit-for-purpose, branded clothing helps the team stay safe on shift and feel part of a proud, hardworking team.

It is a privilege to play a small part in supporting Black Country Foodbank, and we are proud to stand behind them as they continue to make a meaningful difference across our region.
