The non-profit New Automotive has released a new report offering a snapshot of the UK’s electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, revealed that the UK’s infrastructure rollout is on track to meet Government targets.

The On the Road to 2030 report also highlighted that EV drivers experience significant running cost savings compared to fossil fuelled cars, even when charging at 68.7p/kWh.

The government has published a new electric vehicle (EV) charging plan – to make smart charging the go to by 2025.
This will see drivers save money on their energy bills and their driving, it stresses – with real-time data on the cost of charging.
Motorists will be told when electricity is cheaper and cleaner to not only save money charging their cars but also power their home using electricity stored in their EV if they’re not driving.
The government has said that this change to charging habits could save drivers up to £1,000 each year.

Did you know?

Approximately 8,700 electric vehicle (EV) chargers were installed across the UK last year, the highest annual increase to date but one that is failing to keep pace with growing adoption.
The UK now has approximately 37,000 EV chargers, according to EV charge point app Zap-Map. It means that the number of EV charge points increased by 30% year on year, compared to a 38% increase in the number of EVs on British roads.

Increasing the number of EV chargers is crucial ahead of the government’s ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel cars in 2030.

EV TIP: THE 80/20 RULE FOR ELECTRIC VEHICLES
To extend your EV battery's life, remember the 80/20 rule, which means not charging past 80 percent and not letting it drop below 20 percent. Many EVs allow the driver to use an app or the car's touchscreen to tell it to stop charging when it achieves a certain charge level.
