⛔PLEASE BEWARE OF SOLAR SCAMS⛔️
This week, we have been contacted by several people in the Warminster area who have been scammed out of thousands of pounds by fake Solar PV Companies.
Praying particularly on vulnerable customers who have an existing Solar Panel systems, these companies are skilled at convincing the customer that additional work is needed at highly inflated prices.
Often the work is not needed at all or it compromises the original system which can cause serious damage.
Before committing to any additional works, we would always recommend you take the following actions;
1. Check with the original installation company providing they are still an active business and are MCS registered to seek their advice.
2. Check the new companies credentials and see who they are regulated through - NICEIC / NAPIT / MCS.
3. If they tell you that your electricity company has confirmed this is necessary, check for yourself. Independently source the contact details for your electricity supplier and speak to them directly away from the potential scammers.
4. If you are passed the phone by the Solar company with someone claiming to be from your electricity company or a reputable third party, refuse to take the call. Always source the contact details independently and speak to them directly away from potential scammers.
5. Never agree to anything on the spot - insist on time to consider your options. Do not let work start until you check them out and are satisfied the company is legitimate.
6. Always get a second opinion from a reputable local company. Most local companies will be glad to provide you some feedback on what you have been advised to do before you make the final decision.
7. These companies typically request payment by cheque - often made payable to a different company name. Before you agree to have the work completed, find out the exact details on how they expect to be paid.
8. If anything doesn't feel right, don't commit. Don't feel pressured into making a decision you are not sure of. Any reputable company will be happy to wait and want you to be completely comfortable before you agree to any work.
