New Hero FLEX attachments for Lee 🦾

Lee recently visited the clinic to collect some new activity attachments, giving him even more options for the activities he loves doing.

One of them is the Gripster, built for rowing, kayaking, weightlifting and using long-handled tools. You’ll also spot the Cobra at the end - a versatile attachment designed for training gear, everyday tools, carrying pens or screws and more.

With Hero FLEX, you can switch between your bionic hand and activity-specific attachments using the same socket - just click in what you need and go.

Jamie is on the road to getting a Hero PRO! He came in for his test socket appointment and the first thing he wanted to do was a bionic fist bump. 🦾

LimbBo Foundation UK puts on days for limb different community to just be them - no explaining, no staring, just fun. Holding an ice cream cone might seem simple, but it takes precise control to position the hand, adjust the grip and keep a delicate object secure.🍦

Behind the bar for an eleven-hour shift. Up the highest mountain for in his life. The Hero PRO is the perfect sidekick!

Lucas works at a local Seattle brewery, pulling pints of IPA - wrist flexion lets him angle the hand naturally while he pours, and the grippier fingertips on his Hero PRO make holding a mug with both hands easy. He got through an eleven-hour shift on a busy World Cup game day without a second thought.

Off shift, that same arm goes straight into the outdoors. This year Lucas took on his first major mountain climb - 7,000ft up Mount Rainier, with some inclines hitting 55 to 60 degrees, carrying a full pack the entire way. In his words: the arm never held him back.

He's also out kayaking for 2-3 hours at a time using the waterproof Gripster attachment, plus snowboarding, rafting, and over ten years volunteering as a camp counsellor for young amputees.

That's the bit about Hero PRO people don't always see - it's not about being flashy, it's about being there for every single part of the day, whatever that day looks like.

His insurer called it "not medically necessary." Lucas has since used it to pull pints through an 11-hour shift and climb 7,000ft up Mount Rainier.

Lucas had worn a crowdfunded Hero Arm for five years, so he knew exactly what he needed when it came time to upgrade to a Hero PRO. He was denied twice. He thinks whoever reviewed the first claim believed he was asking for a completely different device.

His Open Bionics prosthetist, Elise, stayed on it every step of the way until it was approved. In Lucas' words: "The only roadblocks were ever on the insurance side."

Two features stand out for him: the wrist flexion, which lets him angle the hand while he's pulling pints, and the ventilation, which he noticed most on the climb - his first ever, carrying a full backpack up the steepest sections. ⛰️🦾
