🧱 This has to be one of the biggest windows I’ve ever bricked up! 😂

After removing the window, I started by blocking up the internal blockwork before moving onto the face brickwork outside.

The next job was to tooth out the existing brickwork at both ends of the opening. As you can see from the pictures, rather than leaving a straight vertical joint, the existing bricks are carefully removed in stages so the new brickwork can be properly toothed back into the house.

It takes a bit more time, especially on an opening this size, but it gives a much better finished job and helps make the new brickwork look like it’s always been there. 👌

From there it was just a case of working my way up with a nice matching face brick, keeping the existing bond and courses running through.

Really pleased with how this one turned out — for the size of the original window, the new brickwork has blended in lovely. 🧱👌

🧱 EXTENSION PROGRESS 🧱

What a great project this has been so far! It’s been nice getting stuck into building a full extension for a change, and it’s really starting to take shape now. 👌

Me and Pete have battled through some ridiculous weather on this one — from 35°C heat, with the mortar drying almost as quickly as we could lay it 😂☀️, to heavy rain where we couldn’t get everything covered quickly enough! 🌧️

Despite the weather, we’ve made cracking progress. The brickwork and blockwork are well underway, steels are in, and the wall plate will be fitted this week. The roof structure will then be measured and built on site, so things should really start moving quickly from here. 🏠🔨

I’m looking to take on more extension projects like this going forward, from the initial groundwork and brickwork right through to creating that extra space your home needs.

I hate rainy days, but after making the right call this morning to come off the extension I’m currently building, I managed to make an early start on another job.

Today’s job is installing Helibars to stitch and strengthen the brickwork, repairing some pretty serious staggered cracks running down this conservatory wall. 🧱💪

Not the weather I wanted, but at least the day hasn’t gone to waste! 🌧️😂

Wow, it’s been a hot one today! 🥵☀️

Laying bricks in this heat is definitely harder than it looks. The mortar is drying out almost as soon as it hits the board, so I’ve been having to point up pretty much after every course.

That said, I’ve made some decent progress over the last two days and, most importantly, the customer is happy with how it’s coming along. 👌🧱

Back at it again tomorrow… with another 32°C expected! 🥵🔥
