🚨 Less than 2 weeks to go! 🚨

In just two weeks, our new cohort of first-year apprentices will be starting an exciting new chapter in their lives, and we can’t wait! 🙌

Our second year apprentices will also be returning to continue their journey towards completing their Level 3 Advanced Diplomas, alongside our first and second year HNC students.

Before long, the car park will be full, the workshops will be busy, and our brilliant training facility will once again be full of the energy, enthusiasm and vibrancy that comes with a new academic year. 🔧⚙️

We’re incredibly excited to welcome everyone back and to see our new apprentices get started on their engineering careers. 👷‍♀️👷‍♂️

👷‍♀️ Another fantastic addition to our apprenticeship and commercial training at Seta 👷‍♂️

One of the best things about having experienced engineers as instructors is that they're always looking for new ways to bring learning to life. Our latest training resource is a perfect example.

A huge well done to our own instructor, Rick, who has designed and built an electrical maintenance fault-finding rig featuring 25 different electrical faults for apprentices to identify and diagnose!

Fault finding is a fundamental skill for electrical or multi-skilled maintenance technician apprentices. It's not just about finding what's wrong, it's about thinking logically, interpreting circuit diagrams, testing safely, and developing the confidence to solve problems efficiently.

By working on this rig during their foundation training, our apprentices can experience a wide range of realistic faults in a safe, controlled environment before they ever step onto an employer's site. That means they arrive in the workplace with a stronger understanding of fault diagnosis, greater confidence using test equipment, and valuable hands-on experience that prepares them for real engineering challenges.

We're incredibly proud of the dedication and innovation our instructors bring to apprentice training. Thanks, Rick, for another brilliant resource that will benefit our apprentices for years to come.

It was a pleasure to welcome engineering students from Emmanuel College, Gateshead to Seta this morning.

The visit began with a tour of our workshop, led by our instructor Ryan and supported by apprentices from EGGER Group and Mazak Europe. The apprentices introduced the students to a variety of machinery and equipment, explaining how it works and sharing their own experiences training as a Seta apprentice.

Students also had the opportunity to see our robots in operation, with Mike demonstrating their capabilities and explaining how automation is used in modern manufacturing environments.

The group then visited IPB, where Andy and the team provided a detailed tour of their pipe bending and testing facilities, giving students a valuable insight into specialist engineering processes and equipment.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in the visit. Experiences like these are invaluable in helping young people explore the exciting opportunities available in engineering and manufacturing when making their career choices.

💜 Happy International Women in Engineering Day💜

Today, we had the privilege of hosting an event at Seta that brought together some truly incredible women from across the engineering and manufacturing sectors.

From young women just beginning their careers as apprentices and trainees, to experienced engineers and senior leaders driving change within their organisations, the room was filled with inspiration and honesty.

Our girls led a tour of our training facilities, they did an outstanding job showcasing the skills they are developing and the opportunities available through apprenticeships, while also demonstrating the confidence and professionalism that make us so proud to have them represent Seta.

A huge thank you to Jessica Williams, for expertly facilitating the discussion, and to Ailsa Anderson and the Engineering and Manufacturing Network for organising such a successful event. Thank you also to everyone who attended, shared their experiences and contributed so openly to the conversation. The willingness to support and learn from one another was truly inspiring.
It was, quite simply, a bloody great morning.

What a great write-up by the Sunderland Echo!

Seta proudly supported local charity, Hope 4 Kidz, raising more than £600 with our first ever charity football match, which saw our apprentices go head-to-head with our instructors!

Well done to all involved, and a huge thanks to Viv from Hope 4 Kidz and our Ryan, who organised and executed such an amazing event!

Our maintenance apprentices started their final 6-week rotation last week in mechanical maintenance, and they’ve hit the ground running 💪

Already, they’re being assessed on their ability to dismantle and reassemble a fuel injector, putting their precision and problem-solving skills to the test.

They’ll have already gained many of the skills and knowledge required, following an intensive 8 months of hands-on learning, with rotations in electrical and mechanical maintenance, electrical installation and fitting, hydraulics and pneumatics, PLCs and everyone’s favourite… bench fitting!

Our foundation training is what sets us apart as an engineering training provider, giving apprentices not just the technical skills, but the work ethic and mindset needed to succeed in industry. All delivered by highly skilled instructors with strong engineering backgrounds.

A big shout-out to our Ryan, who only just started teaching in September and has already made a massive impact. Bringing with him a solid engineering background from his time in the Royal Navy and then in manufacturing, his clear passion for developing future talent is clear!

We were at A&P Tyne this morning for their first assessment centre of the year!

It was such an insightful morning for those exploring apprenticeships in welding, fabrication, shipwrights, and mechanical fitting. The site itself is an exciting place to discover, offering a real glimpse into careers in marine engineering.

Seta apprentices Erin, Junior, Jack and Owen did such a brilliant job as ambassadors sharing their experiences, answering questions, and helping to inspire the next cohort of apprentices as they begin their journey.
