ON THIS DAY | In 1973, The Atanasoff-Berry Computer finally got its due.

Judge Earl R. Larson signed his decision that the ENIAC patent was invalid and named Atanasoff the inventor of the electronic digital computer. But ENIAC still incorrectly gets the credit from many.

Behind every screening is an opportunity to provide reassurance, raise awareness, or enable potentially life-saving early detection.

That's why we're proud that a £5,000 contribution from our RS Community Team helped support a Cardiac Risk in the Young screening event at Brooke Weston Academy, where 85 young people received cardiac screenings.

Hosted by Nicola and David Lee in memory of their daughter, Miriam, the event welcomed both members of the public and RS colleagues, showcasing the impact that can be made when communities come together around a shared purpose.

It was great to see volunteers from our RS Community Team and Bloomers ERG lending their support on the day, helping welcome attendees and keep the event running smoothly.

More on Miriam's story and how to support future screenings in the comments. ❤️

ON THIS DAY | In 1959, Control Data Corporation (CDC) introduced the CDC 1604, one of the most powerful computers of its era and the first machine from the company founded by a team led by William Norris.

Designed by pioneering computer engineer Seymour Cray, the CDC 1604 helped establish CDC as a major force in computing and marked an early milestone in the development of high-performance computers.

The system was used for a wide range of applications, including real-time data processing, weapons systems control, large-scale scientific calculations and commercial data processing, demonstrating the growing impact of computers across industry, research and government.
